A Busy Time of Year...

I've been asked once or twice about a Superintendent's busiest time of the year.  My family will tell you that it's probably spring.   There are so many wonderful activities going on this time of year that I should put a cot in my office so I don't miss one of them.

This week for example, I attended the Downingtown Middle School's spring band concert.  It was also the final time that Judy Houdeshel, a 36 year veteran music teacher of our district, was to conduct her students.   For those of you who attended, you will no doubt agree that those students played their absolute best that evening in honor of this wonderful teacher.

Thank You!

On Wednesday night, members of the school board held a reception before their meeting to honor the 29 teachers, custodians, aides and cafeteria monitors who are retiring this year.   Principals, friends and colleagues shared stories of memorable moments and quotes from students who expressed how much they would be missed.

"Get on the Bus"
Kindergarten teacher and curriculum leader Stacy Fisher finished up the 2nd successful year for the Parent/Child Preschool Outreach program by offering parents and their young ones a trip on a yellow school bus, courtesy of Wolfington Bus Company.  Stacy is already busy planning the activities for the 2015-2016 school year.

A visit by Thomas Jefferson
Thanks to a generous donation by community members Mr. and Mrs. Ken Woods, students at Pickering Valley, the Marsh Creek Sixth Grade Center and Downingtown Middle School enjoyed a visit from Bill Barker, Colonial Williamsburg's renowned Thomas Jefferson performer.  Bill has portrayed Thomas Jefferson in a variety of venues since his first appearance at Independence Hall in Philadelphia in 1984.
