As most of you know by now, George Fels "Pool's Poet Laureate" died from a heart attack New Year's Eve. He was a friend, teacher, storyteller, confidant, and most importantly, just a really cool dude to be around. 

After publishing the book, "Mastering Pool," in the late '70s, Fels began contributing monthly columns to Billiards Digest in 1981. Over the next 33 years, Fels penned nearly 300 columns for the magazine. His columns were entertaining recollections of the game and its characters. His style was crisp, precise and hilariously descriptive.

New York Yankee All Star Mark Teixeira recalls his favorite Christmas gift as a child: a pool table.

"That year, I opened up a pool stick, and I was like, 'This is cool,'" Teixeira recalled. "Then I opened up the next present, and they were billiards balls. The next present was chalk, and I was like, 'Wait a second.' So I started putting two and two together, and my parents said, 'Why don't you go look downstairs?'

 

"I ran downstairs and there was a pool table built. I don't know how they pulled it off."

Pool Stick Skirt?  Friction Eliminator for Pool Players Invented by InventHelp Client (WDH-478).
