Cuyamaca College Ornamental Horticulture Alumni Network Newsletter
Winter 2013

Thank you to all who attended the Alumni Network kickoff event on October 4th in The Water Conservation Garden. The evening was a wonderful blend of wine and beer tasting, hors d'oeuvres and fantastic live entertainment, and provided an excellent opportunity to network with current and former students, faculty, staff, and industry leaders. We were also pleased to share together in the retirement celebration for OH Program Chairman Brad Monroe in appreciation of his commitment to the college, OH Department and many generations of students since he came to the college in 1979. We look forward to the 2nd Annual Pinot & Pints next fall!

Upcoming Events

greg rubin"Upcoming Even"

The Alumni Network will host a fundraiser at O's American Kitchen later this spring. Twenty percent of all Cuyamaca alumni food sales that night will benefit the Alumni Network efforts to support OH Department programs! We plan to have Greg Rubin join us to talk about California native plants.

This will be the perfect opportunity to do some shopping, support the Alumni & Friends Network, get an opportunity to meet Greg Rubin and see his new book, as well as visit with old friends. More information will be sent soon.

Greg Rubin is the owner of California's Own Native Landscape Design and a recognized leader in the field of native plant design, which specializes in creating stable, sustainable, ornamental, low-input gardens with substantial habitat and wildlife value.

Educational Events

One of the purposes of this network is to provide learning opportunities to keep alumni and department friends current with industry trends and developments. Future educational events are being planned and your input is needed. Send your suggestions for topics and/or speakers to [email protected].

  Alumni & Friends

Would you like to leave a permanent legacy in the heart of Ornamental Horticulture at Cuyamaca College? Purchase a brick for the Alumni & Friends Monument to help build the foundation for our alumni outreach efforts. Each brick will be used in the design of a new wind sculpture memorial and personalized by you. The monument, which will be a centerpiece of the Cuyamaca College Nursery,  is scheduled to be completed in 2013.

Ornamental Horticulture Department

Equipment Donation Program

The Cuyamaca College Ornamental Horticulture Department works to provide the highest quality educational experience for our students in order to supply the industry and community with knowledgeable and dedicated horticulture professionals. You can help us achieve this goal by donating landscape equipment, or supplies, that you no longer use.

In conjunction with McCormack Auctions and the Foundation for Grossmont and Cuyamaca Colleges, we will auction all types of landscape or nursery equipment, supplies, hand or power tools, cars, trucks and trailers and send you a tax deductible receipt.

Contact us and we will work with

you to make all the arrangements.
