Dear Spring Woods Family,
February is course selection month for 9-11th graders and FASFA month for seniors. While it may seem early to be thinking about next fall, this is a critical time to have good conversations with your student about planning for their future. Fortunately, we do not have a lot of state testing in February, but that changes early in March with English TAKS testing for juniors and benchmark testing for our freshmen and sophomores.
I want to encourage all of you to pay close attention to what is going on on the Legislature. Our representatives are making critical decisions that will effect our students and their graduation. I was recently in a meeting where I was informed that just 10 phone calls from parents on a topic make a difference with legislatures, so if you are concerned you may want to speak up. Lance Stallworth, Principal Spring Woods High School |

A MESSAGE FROM THE SWHS TEACHER APPRECIATION COORDINATOR:
PTA TAKES TEACHER APPRECIATION VERY SERIOUSLY. AS TEACHER APPRECIATION COORDINATOR, I HAVE HAD THE WONDERFUL OPPORTUNITY TO SEE HOW HAPPY THE TEACHERS AND STAFF ARE WHEN THE PARENTS SHOW THEIR APPRECIATION EACH MONTH. I HAVE BEEN VOLUNTEERING IN THIS POSITION SINCE THE 2010-2011 SCHOOL YEAR AND HAVE ENJOYED EVERY MOMENT.
THIS VOLUNTEER POSITION HAS TAKEN ON A PERSONAL MEANING FOR ME THIS YEAR. MY FAMILY HAS BEEN THROUGH A VERY TRYING YEAR. THE TEACHERS AND STAFF AT SWHS HAVE BEEN INCREDIBLE. THEY HAVE SUPPORTED US, WORKED WITH US, HELPED MY STUDENT SUCCEED IN SPITE OF THE CIRCUMSTANCES, AND HAVE GONE WAY BEYOND WHAT WAS EXPECTED OF THEM. I NOW HAVE EXPERIENCED THE TRUE REASON FOR TEACHER APPRECIATION AND AM THANKFUL.
NEXT TIME WE ASK FOR VOLUNTEERS FOR ONE OF THESE EVENTS AND YOU ARE NOT SURE WHY WE KEEP HAVING THEM OR IF YOU ARE UNSURE OF WHETHER YOU WANT TO GET INVOLVED, COME TALK TO ME AND I WILL BE GLAD TO TELL YOU THE MANY REASONS
WE SHOULD APRECIATE OUR SWHS TEACHERS AND STAFF.
GREAT BIG THANKS TO ALL OF THEM!
