Please take a few moments of your time to fill out this survey by clicking on the link below. Your responses will be held in the strictest confidence and responses will be analyzed in the aggregate only.

MAC - Caregiving Training

MAC Inc., the Area Agency on Aging, has recently opened a new Caregiver Resource Center in Salisbury to provide assistance to area caregivers living in Wicomico, Worcester, Somerset and Dorchester counties. Volunteers are needed to support local caregivers by volunteering two or three hours during the day on an on-call or weekly basis, depending on the volunteers schedule and availability. Initially, volunteers will be scheduled to stay with the client at a local Senior Center or Day Care facility, while the caregiver runs errands, goes to doctor appointments or just takes some "me time". The volunteer would not be alone with the client, but would have others around if help was needed. As the program grows, volunteers will be trained to stay with clients in their home while caregivers are away. All volunteers would be able to serve on a flexible schedule and in a setting where they feel comfortable. Volunteers will not be asked to transport clients or administer medications. The required training will be taught by a registered nurse and begins Tuesday, March 5 from 10:00 a.m. to noon. It will be held at the Salisbury Wicomico Senior Services Center (behind the Holly Center) on Snow Hill Road in Salisbury. The training will provide valuable information for volunteers as caregivers in this program, as well as for personal caregiver use.

For more information, or to register for the upcoming training, call Valerie Wagner, RSVP Project Director at MAC at 410-742-0505 x 112.

"Dress in Blue Day" - March 1

Please join the Wicomico County Health Department and participate in the Annual "Dress in Blue Day', Friday, March 1, 2013 to raise awareness about Colorectal Cancer and the need for screening. "Dress in Blue Day' was started in March of 2006 by a Colon Cancer Alliance Volunteer and survivor, Anita Mitchell. In 2009 Anita worked with the Colon Cancer Alliance to build national recognition for this event. We are encouraging individuals, businesses and community groups to participate by encouraging friends, family, co-workers and other members of their organization to wear blue. By getting people to talk about Colorectal Cancer, and learning about ways to prevent this #2 cause of cancer deaths in the U.S. you could save a life-- maybe even your own. For more information go to www.dressinblueday.com or contact Denise Chamberlain RN at 410-543-6938 Ext. 13381.
