A MESSAGE FROM OUR 2013/14 CHAMBER PRESIDENT: MARY ANN QUAY

June was my last month as President of the Glendora Chamber of Commerce and on June 25th we had our Installation Dinner where we welcomed the new Board and said “Goodbye” to the outgoing Board.  Many will be continuing on, so you may not notice much change next year, but I’d like to especially thank the retiring Directors, Linda Hermann and Saed Albasha, for their contributions to the success of the Chamber.  Particularly, my personal thanks to Linda Hermann, who was one of the first people I met as a new Chamber member ten years ago and has been extraordinarily devoted to the Chamber and the community.  She is a remarkable woman and I will miss working with her on the Board.  I am grateful she agreed to stay on the Board a year longer than planned.

I also want to thank Dennis Chiappetta, who found it necessary to leave the Board in mid-term, but had previously devoted many years to the Glendora Chamber, giving generously of his time and resources to support the Chamber.  He is a strong leader with great ideas and his presence is missed.

There’s lots happening in Glendora and the recent “Gumby Fest” is a great example of the type of thing that can happen when organizations and people work together.  It was a fun event that brought national and international recognition to the City and was made possible by the hard work of everyone involved.  It will be exciting to see what might come of this inaugural event as time goes by.

I can’t say enough about Joe Cina and Michelle Street and the great work they do for you.  The Chamber is in good financial condition, actively providing many opportunities for Glendora’s businesses to grow and prosper, from networking events to educational seminars to on-line marketing tools, and all of these are the result of Joe’s effort and Michelle’s assistance.

For those of you who have not been taking advantage of the things the Chamber can do for you, I encourage you to do so.  Not only will your business benefit, but you will also meet some terrific people, make some new friends and have some fun in the process.  And have a wonderful summer!

Foothill Gold Line June-July Update

The Metro Gold Line Foothill Extension light rail project from Pasadena to Azusa is now more than 60% complete. The on-time, on-budget project will be turned over to Metro for testing and pre-revenue service in September 2015. Metro will determine when the line opens for passenger service.

The closest station to the city of Glendora is the APU/Citrus College Station. This is the temporary terminus for the line until the Azusa to Montclair segment is completed. The APU/Citrus College Station is located just north of Foothill Blvd, at Citrus Ave. As part of the Rosedale master plan development, Citrus Ave will be built out north of Foothill Blvd, connecting the street to the future light rail station’s parking facility. Construction is underway on the station and the 200-space parking structure; both of which will be completed by September of next year.

In April 2014, the Foothill Gold Line Construction Authority took the next step to ready the Azusa to Montclair light rail extension for construction. Over the next two years, the agency will advance the design and engineering for the 12.3-mile, six station project to a point where it will be ready for a design-build procurement.

Starting in Fall 2014, meetings will be held with the community and city to develop the design and artwork plans for the future Glendora station, as part of this design/engineering effort. If you are interested in receiving information about these meetings or the status of the Azusa to Montclair light rail extension, sign up to receive information at www.foothillextension.org.
