A Message from the President

Dear women of Impact 100 Greater Indianapolis and our loyal supporters,

Impact 100 Greater Indianapolis president Beth Thomas
While we've all been watching for hints of warm weather to come and enjoying spring bulbs and the magnolia trees in bloom, our Focus Area Committees (FAC) have been busy. They're reviewing grant applications, looking for at least two innovative proposals that could have an impact on our community. They'll conduct site visits at those nonprofits in April, and then each FAC will select the nonprofit and program to represent their focus area.

There will only be four finalists this year. After much discussion the Environment Focus Area Committee decided not to request a full grant proposal from any of the proposals submitted to them. The committee carefully weighed the proposals against our eligibility requirements (you can review them at http://www.impact100indy.org/grants/eligibility/), and determined that none of this year's proposals to their committee met them.  The committee members, some of whom work for or have worked for nonprofits, felt it would be unfair to ask an organization to go to the effort and cost of submitting a full proposal if the project was not eligible. Because this was unprecedented, the FAC Chair consulted with the Grant Co-Chairs and myself, and after a review we agreed with the committee's decision. While it's disappointing not to have an Environment finalist, the actions of the FAC prove our process is unbiased and our members take their responsibilities seriously.

I started this newsletter with the hope of spring, which always means renewal to me. So, I bring my thoughts back to that topic to make sure you notice our fabulous new logo at the top of the newsletter. We have a new look but are the same organization with the same hopes and dreams on the inside.

Here's hoping this spring brings you the opportunity for personal growth and renewal,

Beth Thomas

Start Planning Now for the Impact 100 Annual Dinner

Make sure your calendar is set for our Annual Dinner and Grant Presentation on Tuesday, June 7 at The Willows on Westfield.

The fundraising committee is looking for businesses and individuals wishing to support this year's Annual Dinner. Depending on the amount of their sponsorship, sponsors may receive signage at the event, recognition during the ceremony and in the program, and other perks. We are also soliciting for items to include in our silent auction. Silent auction items in previous years have included spa services, catering, pontoon excursions, gift baskets, and jewelry.

If you or your organization are interested in sponsoring the dinner or donating an item for the silent auction, drop us a note at impact100indy@gmail.com with the name and email address of the person we should contact.

Invitations will be sent later in the spring. We look forward to seeing you there!
Welcome Party:  Information and Inspiration

Forty-five Impact members and guests met at Rock Steady Boxing (RSB) on March 23rd to welcome new members and to learn about RSB's innovative and intense exercise program that slows and reverses Parkinson's symptoms.

Rock Steady Boxing Executive Director shares the history of RSB with Impact 100 members.

The Membership Committee hosted this event to give our new members a chance to meet some longer term members and ask questions about our giving circle. We hope that, throughout the year, new members will continue to stay in touch with their mentors on the Committee.

Joyce Johnson, RSB Executive Director, recounted how our 2010 $100,000 grant marked the turning point that put RSB on the path to the successful program they have now. Since 2010, RSB has expanded its programs and facilities in Indy and expanded to 30 states and several international locations. For more information about RSB, visit rocksteadyboxing.org. Be sure to go to the Videos tab to see some truly inspirational stories.

At the gathering, we presented Joyce Johnson, the executive director of Rock Steady Boxing, with the Spotlight Award that Impact 100 received from the Women's Collective Giving Network. (Click here for more details.)

Beth Thomas, Impact President, made a surprise presentation to Ms. Johnson of a ceramic vase, which had been awarded to Impact 100 Greater Indianapolis by the Women's Collective Giving Network because of our grant to RSB.

Nominating Committee

The Nominating Committee has begun working on recruiting for the 2016-17 Impact 100 board of directors. Three directors are reaching the end of their terms, so we will have openings for women interested in serving on the board as secretary, FAC chair, or grants co-chair. The committee is also interested in hearing from any member interested in knowing more about the board and its needs. Send an email to impact100indy@gmail.com if you'd like to know more.
