LoDo District, Inc. supports LoDo, Denver's unique historical, cultural and retail neighborhood through marketing, education and advocacy. The LoDo neighborhood has seen a lot of changes throughout the years, but continues to evolve and mature into one of Denver's greatest neighborhoods. By preserving the neighborhood's past, LoDo continues as a vital and positive force in Denver's present and future, and LoDo District is proud to serve as a guardian of that past, and a guiding force of LoDo's future. Serendipity recently partnered with LoDo, Inc and we wanted to learn more about the organization, director Ryan King was kind enough to give us more information:

Denver truly is a city of neighborhoods.  What makes LoDo stand out?

Over the past two decades, LoDo has been restored and renovated into one of, if not THE, liveliest area of Denver. LoDo is has one of the largest concentrations of Victorian and turn-of-the-century architecture in the country, and it houses over 80 pubs, sports bars, restaurants and coffeehouses. LoDo is a truly mixed-use neighborhood, and is home to and located near some of Denver's greatest attractions: Coors Field, Denver Union Station, Larimer Square, the Museum of Contemporary Art, Elitch Gardens Theme and Water Park, 16th Street Mall, Pepsi Center, and Auraria Campus.

What can you tell us about the walking tours that LoDo District offers?

As one of Denver's oldest business districts, LoDo has seen Colorado's gold rush, the industrial era, skid row, and finally urban revitalization. Experience LoDo's history through a self-guided walking tour, and learn about some of Denver's most beautiful buildings - hotels, business houses, saloons, and brothels, along with the often notorious individuals who occupied them. The preservation efforts, in celebration of LoDo history, saved many buildings that exist today.

Another option would to take a stroll with professor Kevin Rucker for tales of LoDo's ghosts, early "movers & shakers" of Denver, conmen and scoundrels. Two options for guided tours are available: Historic LoDo Walking Tours, and Adults-Only Adventure. For reservations and tour information, please contact Kevin at: 720-690-7432

What other type of events will LoDo district offer?

Many great events happen in the LoDo neighborhood throughout the year, from Rockies Opening Day to the Denver Chalk Art Festival, there's always something to do in LoDo.

Upcoming event put on by LoDo District include: LoDo Bites, June 16th;  3rd Annual Golf Tournament at Hiwan Golf Course, June 22nd; Grand Illumination of Union Station, November 27th. We are also in the beginning stages of planning an event for Denver Days in the August.

LoDo has seen a lot of changes in recent years, what else can Denverites expect to see in LoDo's future?

One of the most exciting changes will be next year when the rail system to DIA opens up and it will completely change our neighborhood when it does. Just as Coors Field was a catalyst for change 20 years ago; Denver Union Station is doing the same now.  Planners are projecting that by the year 2030 over 200,000 people will pass through Denver Union Station on a daily basis.

What is your favorite activity to do in LoDo in the spring/summer?

Perhaps one of the best events that happens in LoDo during the summer is LoDo Bites. It gets people out and about, experiencing our neighborhood; they're enjoying food and drinks from many of our restaurants, having a great evening with family and friends, and getting a taste of the whole LoDo neighborhood.
