These days food trucks are everywhere - delivering tacos, cupcakes, and fancy hot dogs to the masses. Delicious food coming out of trucks has become the norm. We have become so used to them that perhaps some of the excitement in following our favorites has faded. That is until Baba & Pops came around with their delicious handmade pierogi a short while ago. They have quickly grown from another gourmet food truck to selling the food cult favorite, pierogis, in local grocery stores.

Serendipity had the pleasure of meeting the husband and wife duo behind Baba & Pop's, Katherine and Jeremy, when we catered their wedding in the summer 2013. We have enjoyed following their success and are currently happily sharing our kitchen space with them while Baba & Pop's pierogi are literally flying off the shelves.

Chopsticks have been dug from burial plots that are at least 3,200 years old. Some surmise that they evolved from a practice of using a wooden stick while cooking on an open fire to prod, stir or move food. It is fairly easy to imagine how a pair of sticks came to be used like tongs.

The fortune cookie dates back to Kyoto, Japan during the 19th Century.

Spain with a 44 % of market share is by far the most important producer of olive oil in the world. This is more than twice the Italian production and four times Greek production!
Although croissants are associated with France, they actually started in Austria.  The crescent was the symbol of the Turks.  When the Austrians defeated the Turks in a battle over 300 years ago, the French chef employed by the Emperor of Austria decided to make crescent-shaped pastry (in the shape of the Turks' emblem) for the Austrians to eat in celebration - meaning they were crushing and chewing their enemies!  
When the chef returned to France, he made his 'invention' popular there too. 



Pizza was invented in Naples, Italy. There are two classic types of pizza: one topped with a simple red sauce and is called marinara (or rossa) and the other, topped with tomato sauce and mozzarella, is called the margherita after Queen Margherita. 


In the Jalisco state of Mexico, home many of the largest tequila distilleries, tequila is often followed by a chaser of sangrita or a "little blood", made of a blend of tomato and orange juice with chili powder.

I don't know how it could have gotten better on Friday (at the open house). 

The food and the presentation were great. The two (Serendipity) staff who were here were fantastic. We had a magician here who was teaching tricks and the laughter, the atmosphere, the food - 
it was the perfect ending to a fun week.
