Clocktower BW

We thought you might want to know more about the historic "D&F Tower" in downtown Denver. Serendipity Catering is there often for weddings, corporate parties and social celebrations.
One of our all-time favorites!

History of The Clocktower:

Prior to 1950 the fashionable Daniels and Fisher Department Store was the crown jewel of the Denver skyline for many years until it fell into ruin during the 1950's.

Built in 1911 and designed by architect F. G. Sterner, the D & F Tower was the tallest structure west of the Mississippi, at a height of 393 feet. Visitors to the 20th floor used to be able to see 200 miles in any direction. The building is of the Italian Renaissance style and is constructed of brick, stone & terra cotta. In the 1960's after financial ruin the building was set to be demolished. The flagship store was destroyed but due to immense effort from preservationists in the early 1970's, its grand clock tower was saved.

Now listed on the National Register of Historic Places and a Denver Landmark, The D & F Clock Tower is also a contributing building to the Downtown Denver Historic District. It nightly lights up the Denver skyline and remains one of the most iconic elements of the Denver skyline.

Now the Clocktower is home to one our favorite event venues especially magical during the holiday season.

The venue features five unique floors connected by staircases. Two of the floors offer wrap-around balconies affording breathtaking panoramic views of the city and surrounding mountains.  It is chic & modern.  Perfect for an intimate wedding ceremony, or a unique, progressive style reception, party, or dinner!

Holiday Fun Facts

Reindeer

Dreaming of a green Christmas? Household waste increases by 25 percent between Thanksgiving and New Year's Day. In the United States, trash from wrapping paper and shopping bags totals 4 million tons.

Rudolph first alighted on the holiday scene in 1939, when in-store Santa's at Montgomery Ward stores distributed 2.4 million copies of the booklet "Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer," written by Robert L. May, a copywriter for the company. After executives vetoed the original name, Rollo, May's young daughter suggested Rudolph.

The first candy cane dates back to 1670 in Germany. According to holiday lore, a choirmaster distributed sugar sticks bent into the shape of a shepherds' crook to quiet his young singers during Christmas services. Today more than 1.76 billion candy canes are made for the holidays, enough to stretch from Santa Claus, Indiana, to North Pole, Alaska, and back again 32 times.

The largest gingerbread man in the world weighs in at a whopping 466 pounds, six ounces. The Gingerbread House, in Rochester, Minnesota, baked the giant cookie on February 21, 2006.

Despite their bad reputation, poinsettias aren't deadly. Latex in the stems and leaves can be irritating, but not much more, to humans and animals.

The U.S. Postal Service delivers 20 billion cards and packages between Thanksgiving and Christmas Eve.
