Peteybird Sandwiches

A quick, fun Q & A with peteybird owner Pete Bredemann:

Where does the name peteybird come from?

My mom called me Peteybird as a child.  I also had the good fortune of falling in love and marrying a woman with the last name "bird".  Serendipitous, don't you think?

What does it take to be one of your coveted bike-riding-ice-cream-selling enthusiasts?

"Enthusiast" answers the question.  I started the business because I love ice cream sandwiches.  our current team of enthusiasts share a similar passion.  We look for someone who feels the way all enthusiasts do about ice cream sandwiches.

What is your favorite ice cream/cookie flavor combination?

This is analogous to asking a father which child is his favorite.  I love them all equally

You share the Serendipity kitchen with us-- What are some of the most memorable, drool-worthy dishes you have seen from our chefs?

Everything looks and smells so good, I am concerned my constant drooling would cause health department issues!

If you are not eating ice cream sandwiches, what are you having?

Ice cream with cookie dough ice cream.  Just kidding.  I have a very healthy diet.  I was raised on whole grains, fruits and vegetables, and lean meat.  Ice cream sandwiches were my only sweet indulgence as a kid.
They still are.

Easter Fun Facts

Chocolate Bunnies

Candy
For Americans, Easter is the second most important holiday to eat candy, and lots of it! According to the National Confectioner's Association, Americans consumed seven billion pounds of candy on Easter in 2001. Halloween is of course the number one holiday for candy eating!

Chocolate Bunnies

In all, 90 million chocolate Easter bunnies are made for Easter every year. And, when taking a bite into one of those millions of chocolate bunnies, 76% of Americans prefer to bite off the ears first, while 5% eat the feet first and 4% eat the tail first.

Peeps
Americans buy more than 700 million MARSHMALLOW PEEPS during the Easter holiday, which makes Peeps the most popular non-chocolate Easter candy.

Jelly Beans

An astounding 16 billion jelly beans are made exclusively for Easter. That's enough beans to fill a plastic egg the size of a nine story building!

Parades

In the 19th century, ladies who attended Easter services at St. Patrick's Cathedral strolled up New York's Fifth Avenue to show off their new Easter bonnets in what later became known as the Easter Parade.

Flowers

Lilies account for more than half of all Easter gift plants purchased for the holiday followed by azaleas, and African violets.

The Bunny

The Easter Bunny as a holiday deliverer of candy and eggs is thought to have started in Germany during the Middle Ages.

Eggs

Coloring eggs was brought to a high art when medieval English kings dispersed hundreds of decorated, gold-leafed eggs throughout the royal household at Easter.

"I would like to extend my compliments to the chef.

All the food was fabulous and as always the presentation was lovely.  I particularly liked the bento box style lunch presentation and the consideration to have individual containers for the condiments in the box.

The macaroons were fantastic!  One of the best desserts I've ever had from a caterer."

"You outdid yourself yesterday!
The lunch was awesome and fit in perfectly with (the) presentation.

Everyone raved about it.

I asked Angela of all the caterers she's worked with doing these presentations, if she had a preference. She said hands down, Serendipity. You just get what she is doing and understand how to tie the food into a topic.

Thank you again for everything! I look forward to working with you again soon."
