Serendipity Catering Highlights a Friend
Serendipity is always thrilled to work with Denver Wholesale Florists. The DWF experts bring us the most beautiful, highest quality, fresh flowers in Denver.
Nancy Blaylock, Serendipity's DWF floral sales coordinator, was kind enough to answer a few questions about floral trends for spring 2014.
***
What floral trends are you seeing this spring? Colors are Radiant Orchid which is a purple/pink color along with coral and turquoise/aqua. For weddings this year a look of "romance" with peonies (early spring), garden roses and succulent plants giving a soft color palette and texture. What local flowers work best for bouquets in spring/summer months? Local flowers start to come in August-September and include Dahlias, Gomphrenia, Sunflowers, and Lisianthus. For a long lasting bouquet stick with the basics, alstromeria, carnations, and chrysanthemums. Anything unusual, or exotic to look for in trendy spring arrangements? This is a good time of year for leucadendrons, ranunculus, anemones, parrot tulips (frilly), blooming branches (fruit and Forsythia) and bright colors. Don't know your flower names? No problem! Click here for a photo dictionary of many flower varieties. What is your favorite flower?
Depends on the time of year!

Summer - dahlias
Fall - alstromeria
Winter - dendrobiums orchids

Daylight Savings
Benjamin Franklin was the first American to propose Dalylight Saving Time in 1784. However, it wasn't fully implemented in the US until after the Second World War.
Remember to set your clocks ahead one hour on Sunday, March 9th!
Some of the plants that have strong associations with spring include dandelions, daffodils, lilies, primroses, hyacinths, tulips, azaleas, iris and lilacs.
Spring fever is not just a myth - the body may experience physiological changes due to changes in diet, hormone production and temperature.
Birds
Spring is when birds return home after migrating in winter. About 1800 bird species migrate.
The Sun
If you stand at the equator on the first day of spring, you will see the sun pass directly over head. This is only true two times a year; the first day of spring and the first day of Autumn.
Butterflies
Butterflies begin to gather nectar from the first flowers of the season. Adult butterflies can only feed on liquids, usually nectar. Their mouthparts are modified to enable them to drink, but they can't chew solids.
