Downtown Venue: McNichols Civic Center Building
The McNichols Civic Center Building is located at the northwest corner of Civic Center Park, at the intersection of Colfax and Bannock. In 1909, the cornerstone of the McNichols Building was laid. It set the foundation for the then Carnegie Library that would become a center of learning in Civic Center Park. That tradition continues as we re-open the building in 2012 as a contemporary hub for arts and culture for the people of Denver. This stunning Greek Revival building with its classic Corinthian columns and iconic colonnade across its front, offers new experiences in a classic space.

Approx. $700 million in pies
are sold in grocery stores
every year. This does not include restaurants, food service or price clubs, only grocery stores. If you lined up the number of pies sold at U.S. grocery stores in one year, they would circle the globe and then some.
Pie was not always America's favorite dessert - in the 19th Century, fruit pies were a common breakfast food eaten before the start of a long day.
It one time it was against the law to serve ice cream on cherry pie in Kansas.
"As easy as pie" is an American expression. In the 1890's, "pie" was a common
slang expression meaning anything easy, a cinch; the expression "easy as pie"
stemmed quite readily from that.
Nearly one out of five (19%) of Americans prefer apple pie.
When asked what dessert Americans would prefer a friend or family member
bring to their house for a holiday dinner, pie was the winner with 29%. Cake
(17%) and cookies (15%) rounded out the top-three spots.

Independence Day
The first Independence Day celebration took place in Philadelphia on July 8, 1776. This was also the day that the Declaration of Independence was first read in public after people were summoned by the ringing of the Liberty Bell.Setting off firecrackers formed part of the early Independence Day celebrations. This made the horses miserable.
Barbecue is big on Independence Day, with more than 74 million Americans planning one. We eat around 150 million hot dogs and buy around 700 million pounds of chicken.
