Serendipity Catering Highlights a Friend!

Denver B Cycle

We love Denver B Cycle for their passion and progressive thinking -- they are quickly setting an example for many other cities to follow.
Laura Zaspel, co-owner of Serendipity, was recently featured in their newsletter.

Excerpted from the May 2013 edition of Denver B Cycle's Newsletter:

Meet Laura Zaspel: Gourmet Caterer with a Heart for Sustainability

Perhaps you are among the privileged locals lucky enough to have tasted Serendipity Catering's delicious offerings at recent Denver B-cycle events. From housemade granola bars to breakfast burritos, they've made our mouths water more than once. What you may not realize about our friendly food sponsor is that they also lead the region in green event planning. Recently, we sat down with Laura Zaspel, founder of Serendipity, to discuss the company's vision and their reasons for supporting B-cycle.

How did the "catering company with energy efficient roots," as Zaspel describes it, get started? The former US Department of Energy project manager explains, "Well, I married a chef..." Combining each other's passions, they created the first and only Certifiably Green catering service in the city.

When asked why Serendipity supports Denver B-cycle, Zaspel emphasized her commitment to growing sustainable living in Denver. She explains, "You can't get more energy efficient than riding a bicycle." Indeed, she urges the B-cycle community to avoid growing content with past success in combating "The brown cloud," but rather encourages all to "kick their sustainability into high gear."

Did you Know?

Honey Bee- Purple Flower

Honey bees, like their name implies, are the only insects to make honey.

Bumblebees make a honey like substance, but it tastes nothing like the sweet honey we know and love. They also make this in very small quantities.

Honey bees make honey in surplus so bee keepers are able to take a certain amount without hurting the bees or depriving them of food.  Also, honey bees are the only insects that produce something that humans eat and it is the only food that
never goes bad. (Its sugar content is too high.)

Edible honey
has been around so long, it was found in
King Tut's tomb!
