You were Born for Something Great
It is not unusual to hear a famous person say, "I've known my whole life I was born to do something big, something great." In fact that feeling might be in all of us to some degree, hidden deep in some, more obvious in others. And even if you don't believe you were born for it, there is probably a part of you desiring to make a significant, life-changing contribution to the world. It could be an invention, discovery, building something, overcoming a huge obstacle - the list is endless. After all is said and done, the accomplishment would be your testimony. Knowing all glory belongs to God, you will say, "Look what the Lord has done!"
Now consider this...What if you are right about being born to do great things for God, but it's not like what you have been thinking?
One of my favorite truths has always been: "God is not concerned about what we accomplish, but what we become by accomplishing it." This is the truth Jesus proclaimed: "For what will it profit a man if he gains the whole world and forfeits his soul?" (Matthew 16:26) He may accomplish greater things than anyone ever, but if he did not become what God willed him to be, he has achieved nothing. Therefore the first question we must ask ourselves is not, "What was I born to do?", but rather, "What does the Lord desire for me to be?"
This question is easily answered. God's will for you is... "to love Him with all your heart, soul, mind, and strength", right where you are, in whatever circumstances you find yourself. And that you love everyone you encounter (your "neighbor") as yourself. (Mark 12:28-31) When we realize that these are the great concerns of God for our lives, "accomplishing, building, achieving, etc." will soon follow.
Let us then ask ourselves...
* In the situation I find myself today, am I loving God with my motives, actions, words, etc.?
* Is how I am living / acting pleasing to and glorifying Him?
* Am I treating everyone the way I desire to be treated?
These are the great things we were born-again to do. They can't be done in our own ability. We must seek the Lord and be filled with His Spirit to live this way. When we allow Him to live mightily through us, crucifying what needs to be removed and obeying His voice, it will produce a testimony greater than anything we could have ever dreamed on our own.
