The six conferences of the synod met earlier today in assembly at St. Andrew's, Mahtomedi, to elect nominees for the office of bishop of the Saint Paul Area Synod. Following a series of ballots and prayerful deliberation by each conference, a total of 49 individuals was nominated with nine moving forward as finalists.    

The Bishop Election Committee (BEC) and staff in the office of the bishop are working with nominees to confirm their willingness to stand as candidates for the office of bishop, gather biographical information from those who have agreed to stand, and complete background checks. A confirmed list of candidates and biographical information about each of them will be available by mid-March.

The BEC has scheduled forums to provide an opportunity for members of synod congregations to get to know the candidates before the bishop election at the May 16-17 Synod Assembly:
