The New Jim Crow: Mass Incarceration in the Age of Colorblindness

In November, the Immanuel Lutheran Social Action Committee and the SPAS Anti-Racism Task Force are hosting a three-part book study of The New Jim Crow: Mass Incarceration in the Age of Colorblindness by Michelle Alexander for members of Lutheran congregations in St. Paul. The first two sessions will be held at Immanuel, St. Paul. The last session will be held at Redeemer, St. Paul. See the synod calendar for complete event details.

New to Children, Youth, and Family Ministry?
All Children, Youth, and Family workers who are new to their calls/positions in the past year (or who have not attended a Welcome Lunch and wish to join us) are warmly invited to attend this annual event on Thursday Oct. 24 from 11:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m at Luther Seminary. Join us for a great complimentary lunch where you will meet many others who are new to the Twin Cities area as well as connect with some of the key CYFM leaders from both synods.

2013 Bega Kwa Bega (BKB) Fall Festival
Nov. 9, Registration begins at 8:30 a.m. followed by worship at 9:00 a.m.
Christ the King, New Brighton.

The morning will be filled with fellowship, learning and prayer as we give thanks for the partnership with our brothers and sisters in Tanzania. We will celebrate the life-affirming ministry of Don and Eunice Fultz who are retiring as volunteer companion synod coordinators with a presentation, a reception, and a few more surprises.

Did you know we're electing a new bishop in 2014?
In 2014, Bishop Rogness will complete his second six-year term as bishop. Because of term limits, he is no longer eligible to serve. The election of a new bishop will take place at the synod assembly on May 16-17, 2014.
