BKB Student Scholarship Fees for 2014
The Iringa Task Force has approved an increase in Bega Kwa Bega (BKB) student scholarships to $380 for 2014. The increase covers the administrative fee increase in 2013 from 10% to 12.5%, a percentage increase that is part of the new BKB transition and also allows a small increase for the schools.
Supporting the Mwangaza Partnership for Education
BKB has also started efforts to look for ways to support the schools to improve quality of education. Mwangaza Lutheran Partnership for Education will be conducting a one week teacher workshop in Iringa the last week in September.
The Mwangaza staff works with Lutheran schools from all the dioceses in Tanzania and there will be 35 teachers from all six DIRA schools attending the workshop. This workshop is sponsored by the BKB education group and Shepherd of the Valley, Apple Valley. Dan McIntyre will be going to Iringa to attend this workshop, meet headmasters and teachers to discuss ways we can help support education beyond scholarships, and work on a children's book project for villages. Books from the US will be supplemented with children's books in both English and Swahili from a bookstore in Dar.
