Providing support through Blue Christmas services Many congregations this advent season are offering "Blue Christmas" services, aimed at supporting people for whom the holiday's tidings of joy are elusive. An article from the Star Tribune looks particularly at the service offered at our own King of Kings, Woodbury but also provides info on where to find other "Blue Christmas" services in the area. Read article here.

ELCA Good Gifts
The ELCA Good Gifts catalog has over 50 "gifts that make a difference."
Make the ELCA Good Gifts catalog available for members of your congregation this holiday season as well as remembering that gifts like this are also appropriate for other special days: birthdays, anniversaries, graduations, and more. Who would not feel good to know that someone in God's world is surviving because of the gift you gave to your sister?
Order the catalogs at www.elca.org/goodgifts if you do not already have them. They will arrive promptly and at no cost.

Turn talk into action on Stand for Welcome Sunday Stand for Welcome Sunday offers an opportunity for congregations of this church to remember our immigrant roots and give thanks for the many gifts migrants and refugees bring to our communities.
See the flyer (PDF) for resources from Lutheran Immigration and Refugee Service (LIRS) to equip you to turn discussion into action on your Stand for Welcome Sunday. Also find online at www.lirs.org/sfwsunday.

Staff Development Grants from Portico
We have received a one percent wellness reward from Portico, formerly the ELCA Board of Pensions, as a "thank you" to members for embracing healthier habits and saving on overall health care costs by having 78 percent complete the 2012 health assessment. The $21,801.43 reward will be used to provide sabbatical support and staff development to Saint Paul Area Synod congregations. Plenty of funds remain. If you have questions about the wellness grants or if you would like to apply, contact Beth Helgen in the synod office at beth.helgen@spas-elca.org or 651.224.4313. |
The community of Pueblo de Fe invites you to December's Seminary of the Streets. This event will feature Las Posadas, a Latin-American Christmas celebration depicting Mary and Joseph's journey to the inn, and an opportunity to learn about the ministry at Pueblo de Fe. Register here.
