Minnesota Council of Churches opposes voter ID amendment

The Minnesota Council of Churches (MCC), of which the Saint Paul Area Synod is a member, announced its opposition to the voter identification amendment at a press conference on Oct. 16. Bishop Peter Rogness, as president of the organization, delivered a statement outlining the decisions why the MCC took this step. Read the bishop's remarks from the press conference.    

Faith and Criminal Justice Forum this Tuesday

Oct. 23, 6:30 p.m. 

Immanuel, St. Paul. The Saint Paul Area Synod anti-racism task force is sponsoring a forum on the draft social statement from the ELCA on the criminal justice system in the U.S. The statement was created to invite members of the church to engage in moral deliberation on this major social issue.

SPIN Series: Remembering and Honoring Dakota Stories
At the Saint Paul Area Synod Assembly in May 2012, voting members adopted a resolution regarding reconciliation with Native Americans. The resolution called upon congregations to use resources developed by the Saint Paul Interfaith Network (SPIN).

This fall, SPIN presents a series focusing on reconciliation with Native Americans. Sessions will be held from 7:00-9:15 p.m. at the American Indian Magnet School, 1075 E. 3rd St., Saint Paul, MN 55106.
  • Oct. 22 Dakota Voices I - JB Weston, tribal historian and Art Owen, historian and spiritual leader 
  • Oct. 29 Dakota Voices II - Sydney Beane, educator/activist, Gabrielle Strong, descendant of Dakota 38 
  • Nov. 5 Future Voices - American Indian students tell stories and hopes
