   AMERICAN MURAL PROJECT                                      September 2013

On September 5th, we hosted our annual event at the AMP mill site in Winsted. As has been the case for the last several years, the place was packed.

Some of my favorite people from Connecticut, Massachusetts, and New York showed up, starting with Congressman Larson and DECD Commissioner Catherine Smith. It was great to meet State Representative Michelle Cook and her husband, Chris, for the first time, and to see so many of our selectmen from Winsted and neighboring towns. We were especially excited to get Bob Forrester, President of Newman's Own Foundation and a longtime AMP supporter, to come see the site and the progress we have made these past few years.

My only regret while catching up with many people I hadn't seen in some time was how many I didn't get to see. But it was wonderful to have the place so alive with friends turning out to celebrate our collective effort, working to get the mural up and the buildings open to the public.

And with Mark Waldron and Shirley LaChance at the grill and three generations of the Roberts/Montepara family and friends taking over every volunteer post, Shari actually had time to visit with guests this year.

Check out more of Judy G's pictures, now up on our site.

The American Mural Project is a three-dimensional painting so large that a
special building is being created for it. It is a celebration of American ingenuity
and commitment to work. The project seeks to inspire, to invite collaboration,
and to reveal to people of all ages the many contributions they can make to
American culture.  It is intended as a tribute and a challenge.
