Relay - The wall-mounted arm in seagull paint finish with 32" track (HTA32) is no longer available. In June it was announced that this unit would remain available for a limited time, as inventory levels allowed, to help transition existing and new customers to the new model with the gray paint finish. As of this week, that supply has been depleted.

Did You Know? Empath Edition
Across all high-injury risk workforces, healthcare accounts for over 19% of all injuries reported.
Patient-handling injuries are the single greatest contributor to the current nursing shortage. These are the result of awkward bodily positions with repeated movement, in support of limp human weight of the elderly and infirm.
Easy-to-use flip-down arms can eliminate the need for these awkward body positions, and can make the bed-to-chair transfer much simpler!

Nurse Approval Vital to Empath Win
Sparrow Health, in Lansing, Michigan, recently ordered 60 Empath recliners to outfit their 9th and 10th floor patient rooms. The win hinged primarily on a few specific needs of the nursing staff at Sparrow that Michael Koory, Nurture Strategic Account Manager, with the help of dealer NBS, were able to solve by explaining Empath's unique design and the insights behind it.
The nurses complained strongly about the lack of mobility of their previous recliners. Getting into, out of, and around in the tight patient rooms was an unneeded challenge in their already demanding job. This was easily solved by a demonstration of Empath, with its tight turn radius and compact frame. They also had a need for a chair that supports a variety of patient sizes, since their current recliner fails to remain reclined with taller patients. Again, this was no problem for Empath.
In fact, the overall ease of use of Empath was a key driver in winning the enthusiastic support of the nursing staff. Once the chair was demonstrated on a few floors and a sample was left for a test-run, the feedback to nursing leadership was overwhelming. Empath was then chosen without any other demonstrations needed. "Nursing support of Empath was a vital piece of Sparrow making a quick purchasing decision. It absolutely was the determining factor," Koory said.

Pebble in Practice Workshop: Orlando
 |
Kenneth Goldberg, chief of staff of the Orlando VA, presents at the workshop. |
"The delivery of healthcare is in an era of transformation. But, no matter the location of care today and in the future, the application of informed design to the environment of care will continue to be instrumental for achieving successful clinical, social, and financial outcomes." - Mark Goodman, the V.P. of Project Development at the Center for Health Design during the most recent Pebble-in-Practice workshop, July 25-26 in Orlando.
The workshop, titled "The Healthcare Campus - Tomorrow's Ambulatory Environment", focused on the continually evolving methods for the delivery of healthcare, and the transition from a centralized model of care to one more distributed and focused on preventative care and wellness. This discussion clearly has relevance to the future of healthcare design, and specifically the use of space in various healthcare environments. Check out some takeaways from the workshop here.

Target Commercial Interiors Hosts Webinars
Target Commercial Interiors hosted events surrounding the Center for Health Design's ICONS & Innovators webinar on July 18th at three separate locations: Minneapolis, Phoenix, and Madison, WI. They focused their invitations on members of the local design community who they knew were concentrated specifically on healthcare design, and 20 attendees showed in Minnesota, 10 in Arizona, and 15 in Wisconsin.
The groups in both Minnesota and Wisconsin enjoyed a productive networking lunch in between the two sessions of the webinar, while the Phoenix event had a snack break midmorning due to the time-zone change.
John Jurgenson, director of marketing at TCI, is already planning on hosting the next webinar in September: "We had a good, solid business lead in Minneapolis, and one in Madison from a person who did not attend, but who was alerted to our growing abilities in healthcare just by our invitation," he said. "We surveyed all attendees in each location and got great response to the comfortable learning environments we provided, and everyone looks forward to coming to more of these in the future."
