Get a Smartphone Physical at TEDMED
We're partnering with Medgadget at TEDMED this year to provide Smartphone Physicals.
We will marry the smartphone, apps and a few accessories to perform non-intrusive smartphone physicals, and will find measurements as traditional as weight and blood pressure to less traditional data such as oxygen saturation and lung function.
Stay tuned to the Nurture blog for more information on Smartphone Physicals.

Welcome Rob Heitmeier, General Manager of Nurture
What is your role at Nurture? What will you be doing?
| Rob Heitmeier |
I'm the General Manager of Nurture. Initially, I'm really focused on learning the business, including people, dealers, customers, products and the healthcare market. My job going forward is to manage the overall business in partnership with the team. Together, we will evolve the vision, strategy and processes that deliver great healthcare experiences. Our collective efforts and culture will support our mission; to connect and empower patients, providers and partners by designing healthcare spaces that humanize the experience and in turn lead to better outcomes overall.
How will other experiences in your career help inform what you'll be doing with Nurture?
Prior to Nurture, I was the General Manager of PolyVision in Atlanta, Georgia. As a leader of a global enterprise, I was fortunate to be part of a team whose daily responsibility was to deliver great solutions to our customers on a global basis. By creating a clear focus, intuitive solutions and a strong culture of accountability, we were able to move the business forward.
Have you had any eye-opening healthcare-related experiences before? All of us realize that the advent of the internet and mobile devices has enabled not only work, but also, the healthcare experience to migrate to new and changing places. Despite advances in technology, the healthcare experience today largely remains reactive, focused on sickness, not wellness. Costs are extremely high and overall outcomes are inconsistent at best. On a personal note, my mother was recently diagnosed with cancer. Because I live in another city, I participated in her diagnostic moment via cell phone while my mother, brothers and sisters were crammed into a small patient room to meet with the oncologist to receive the devastating news. Needless to say, despite the advancements in technology, the environment did very little to humanize the experience nor empower my mother or other family members to improve the overall health outcome.
Following my mother's diagnosis, I was able to accompany Mom to her chemo treatment at Spectrum Health's Lemmen Holton Cancer Center. The infusion bay featured Sonata casegoods and Empath recliners. The space did an excellent job of integrating technology (power, t.v., monitor). Because of the insights gained during observational research, the Empath recliner also enabled my mother to be wheeled to the restroom during chemo and the space nicely accommodated her nurse and I as we engaged in our consultative session with my mom. While no one desires to participate in their own reactive healthcare journey, the space humanized the experience by enabling better connection and empowerment of all parties involved.
Excited to join the Nurture team? What have you seen or learned in your short time so far at Nurture?
Externally, I've been excited by the market opportunity that exists as a result of the massive change underway in healthcare, both out of necessity (cost and quality), enablement (technology) and desire (improved healthcare outcomes). Internally, I'm motivated by the passion teams at Steelcase and dealers have for "carving out" our unique offering in support of the healthcare journey. |

TEDMED Live Around the Country!
For those unable to attend TEDMED in person this year, fear not! There are ample opportunities to participate in the conference remotely, via live simulcast. Several Nurture-affiliated TEDMED Live events are happening around the country so that the learning and excitement of TEDMED can reach as wide an audience as possible!
Nurture-hosted TEDMED Live simulcasts will be held on April 18 in three select locations: Grand Rapids, MI, Chicago, IL, and Palo Alto, CA. Click the corresponding city if you would like to RSVP to attend that simulcast.
Additionally, Steelcase dealer Target Commercial Interiors will be hosting 4 pre-recorded sessions on April 18th in three locations: Phoenix, AZ, Minneapolis, MN, and Madison, WI. After experiencing great success hosting simulcasted TED events, Target is branching out to include TEDMED as well, said TCI Director of Marketing John Jurgensen. "Our healthcare business is expanding, and we've had a great response from hosting TED events in the past, so we thought hosting a TEDMED event could be great exposure to the local design communities in our three locations," John said. "Our value proposition is increasingly around leading with inspiration and insights and we felt TEDMED matched that really well." Target is hoping for a crowd of between 30 and 40 to attend at each location, with a mix of hospital administrators, A&D, and internal participants. They decided to re-broadcast this year, instead of hosting the conference live, so they could pick and choose the ideal talks for their diverse audience.
Target Commercial Interiors is not alone in hosting a TEDMED Live event. Jayson Gates, a Nurture Independent Rep in Portland, Oregon, will be partnering with SmithCFI, the Oregon Nurture dealer, to host an event in Portland because, as he put it, "it's an exciting opportunity to offer our Oregon designers and healthcare professionals a chance to take part in the TEDMED Live experience." He hopes to attract a mix of A&D and healthcare professionals to take part in both the sessions and the discussions between and after. "We want new relationships to develop from deep conversations and the variety of professionals attending, and we'd love to learn about what's driving the future of health and wellness and how our community can embrace and enhance the coming changes. Overall we want to provide a better healthcare experience in Oregon whether we are on the design, provider, vendor, or patient side," said Jayson. |
