Patient rooms at Spectrum Health in Grand Rapids, MI, will soon be dramatically improved thanks to the hometown team of Custer HealthWorks and Strategic Account Manager Michael Koory. After a tight competition between Nurture and Herman Miller, Spectrum Health chose Nurture. Soon Opus and Folio will outfit 120 rooms at their downtown Butterworth Hospital.
"This project started with great relationships and trust with the hospital's design team and our dealer team consisting of Todd Custer, Jeremy Erard, Jennifer Werner and Kate Early," said Michael Koory. "Our dealer understood what Spectrum Health was trying to achieve with their renovation." Their main priorities were a very polished high-end look to the rooms, along with a streamlined workflow. They were trying to avoid a "clinical" feel to the rooms, and Opus and Folio allowed them to do that.
The process began with a site visit of a previous install of Opus and Folio, and served to illustrate the various possibilities that Spectrum Health could choose from for their own project. This lead to a design specifically tailored to Spectrum Health. After agreeing on the design, a mock-up was built and all of the stakeholders of the project were invited for the presentation. The client had toured Herman Miller earlier that week, so the pressure was heightened, but by emphasizing the simplicity, versatility and modularity advantages of Opus and Folio compared to Compass, Nurture was able to win the business.
By truly understanding the needs of the client, specifically the need to easily be able to change the look of the headwall and footwall, and also be able to accommodate technology such as a television, a nurse call button, or white board, Nurture was able to stand apart from the competition. Thanks to the combined efforts of the team from Custer and the Steelcase Mock-up team, Nurture was able to defend its home turf and secure the win.
