Community Workshop for Kenmore Village Town Green Tonight
Wednesday, July 23
6:00 - 8:00 PM

City of Kenmore Logo The City is excited to incorporate a public square or "Town Green" in the heart of downtown Kenmore. This public gathering space will help create our own sense of place and downtown identity.

On Wednesday, July 23, the City will host the first of three community workshops from 6:00 to 8:00 PM at Kenmore City Hall, 18120 68th Ave NE. They are seeking your input on possible uses, features, and design for this signature new downtown public space. The Town Green is planned to be constructed on the north side of NE 181st Street, near the northwest corner of NE 181st Street and 68th Avenue NE.

To stay informed on the Town Green project, you can request to be added to the City's email distribution list by emailing cityhall@kenmorewa.gov. Project updates and dates for upcoming workshops will be posted online at
http://www.kenmorewa.gov/downtown. If you have any questions, contact Community Development Director Debbie Bent at 425.398-8900 or dbent@kenmorewa.gov.

Backpacks for Kids School Supply Campaign Needs Your Assistance

Now until August 1

backpack

Northshore School District's 14th annual Backpacks for Kids school supply donation campaign is collecting through August 1. The district is seeking our community's assistance in securing the necessary school supply donations needed to fill over 1,100 backpacks, ensuring every Northshore student the opportunity to begin their school year ready to learn. Local businesses (including the Chamber office) and churches have volunteered to be collection sites during the donation drive. Go to www.nsd.org/backpacks for a complete list of requested school supplies and donation collection sites.

Monetary donations, payable to "Backpacks for Kids," can be sent to the Northshore School District Administrative Center, 3330 Monte Villa Parkway, Bothell, WA 98021. Additionally, Northshore is currently looking for volunteers to help assemble backpacks on Aug. 8. Contact Cecilia Shumate at 425.408.7670 or cshumate@nsd.org if you would like to help assemble backpacks or for program information.

City Hall Parking Lots to Close Starting July 25

parking lot closed

The City is about to undertake site preparations for a new City Hall that involve the entire city hall block. The parking lots on the north side (corner of 101st Ave NE and NE 185th St) and on the southwest side at Bothell Way NE and NE 183rd will be closed as of July 25. Visitors to City Hall, for short-term, less than 15-minute visits, can park in any of the 3 signed parking spaces in the Police Department lot across the street. Longer-term visitors to City Hall or to Police may park in the spaces on the north side of the Police Department lot.

The City is aware of the importance of providing parking for customers to City Hall and to local businesses. With that in mind, the City is committed to directing its employees to park in designated alternative locations and to be aware of keeping on-street parking available for customers of downtown businesses.

Additionally, some lane closures and roadway impacts are anticipated on 183rd, 185th, and 101st as new utilities lines are put in, and construction starts for the new Bothell City Hall. Construction on the new City Hall is scheduled to start July 25, 2014 and is expected to be completed in October of 2015, including a 250-stall garage. Go to the City's homepage to read more.

Parks and Public Spaces Levy

We love Public Spaces LogoTo ensure Bothell continues to prosper, citizens, business and community leaders came together several years ago to develop improvements and strategic actions to revitalize downtown and address growing demands for more park land and public spaces throughout the city which will only become more difficult to acquire as the city's population increases and land is used for other purposes.

Over the past several years much progress has been made. Private investments are transforming downtown into a vibrant shopping, cultural and housing center that is the heart of the city. But to complete the vision, more parks and public spaces are needed throughout the city.

On November 4th, 2014 Bothell voters will be asked to consider the Parks and Public Spaces Levy that would raise $42 Million to create destination parks, recreational opportunities and downtown public spaces and enhancements.

The Bothell Wins campaign is co-chaired by two Chamber members, Leigh Henderson, Alexa's Café and Roger Cecil, Cecil and Associates. To learn more about Bothell Wins and why they support this measure visit http://www.bothellwins.org/
