178 Students Start The Community Business Academy
Join us in welcoming our newest wave of entrepreneurs! This month 178 students started the CBA. For some context, in all of 2012, there were 155 total graduates.
This Fall there are eight Community Business Academy classes throughout Essex and Hudson Counties. Over the next two months students will learn fundamental small-business management and planning skills, participate in business simulation games and gain the skills needed to start and grow a business.
Good luck to our future Rising Tide Entrepreneurs!

Myani Fulfills Lifelong Dream of Opening Her Own School
|
When Myani Lawson was looking for a preschool for her daughter, she was unable to find an affordable program that met her specific needs. An entrepreneur with more than a decade of experience in early childhood education, Myani decided to jump start her lifelong dream of opening her own school and open the Bergen-Lafayette Montessori School. Using the Montesorri Method of teaching, Myani's pre-school provides high-quality, early-childhood education to children two to six years old in both English and Spanish.

Entrepreneurship in The New Labor Movement
In recognition of Labor Day, Alfa wrote a blog post about why entrepreneurship could be a solution to some of the issues raised by the impact of today's evolving workplace and the erosion of the Labor Movement. You can read a selection below, but visit our website for the full story. "Working while you build a business is not necessarily the ideal solution--in some ways it's just more work in an attempt to keep up with the rising cost of living. But entrepreneurship does answer some of the questions left unanswered by the erosion of today's Labor Movement in our society. "For many entrepreneurs that come through Rising Tide Capital, it is a chance to build a lasting legacy for their families. Building a strong small business does not happen overnight, but when this goal is realized, the owner achieves flexibility and financial independence-concepts that are slowly slipping away from today's labor environment. Even more, when these business owners hire, they are more likely to ensure that their employees can achieve the same."
