Rising Tide Entrepreneurs Receive Opportunity to Save $5,000 for Business
|
Through our partnership with United Way of Essex and Hudson County we can provide income-qualified entrepreneurs with access to their Individual Development Accounts (IDAs) savings program. Entrepreneurs like Astara D' Antonio can work with a Financial Empowerment Coach to develop a budget and set goals, establish regular savings habits and raise $5,000 in total savings towards sustaining and growing their businesses.
"I'm excited to learn how to change the way I project and spend money, while saving to purchase a physical location for my thrift shop. Without this opportunity, I wouldn't have the funds to open the store this soon," said Astara.

From A Mother to Another: Six Time Management Tips
Nia Reid Allen is the founder and CEO of Myrtle & Flossie, a one-stop online boutique that offers body products, essential baby items and fashionable clothing for before, during and after pregnancy. She contributed a blog post to help other mompreneurs balance catering to family needs while dedicating time to growing their businesses.
- Take care of priorities first.
- Working in an open and clean work space is ideal! Cluttered space means a cluttered mind.
- What I have learned via my growing pains in starting my own business, is that it is best to get all of my house duties, family priorities, and personal tasks completed first. Then I have more time to complete my business tasks. It's about working smarter not harder and maximizing your time.
- Complete one task at a time. Rome was not built in a day
- Set up a schedule or some sort of calendar of daily business activities and only complete the tasks allocated for the specific day.
- The beginning stage of owning your own business is a one man show. You have to prioritize to get anything done and use your time effectively so that you are not wasting any of it.

Seven RTC Staff Members Attend AEO Conference in New Orleans
Earlier this month seven members of the RTC staff traveled to New Orleans for the annual AEO Conference. They networked with fellow industry professionals from within the microbusiness industry and attended valuable workshops, learning about recent research findings, the new economy, and available opportunities. Upon their return they reflected on their experience and what they learned.

"I always enjoy networking with all of the other organizations in our industry at the AEO conference! This conference played an integral part in the way Rising Tide Capital has developed, just because we were able to connect to so many wonderful organizations when we were first starting out. This is why I was especially happy to see Hal Bowling from Launch Chattanooga in Tennessee, and Joel Hamernick from Sunshine Enterprises in Chicago, organizations that we've worked with to grow their own microbusiness development programs in their communities," said Alfa Demmellash.
"As a frequent attendee at AEO over the years I have watched the reputation of RTC grow from an up and coming newbie to one of the recognized regional leaders in the field. At one panel on innovations in micro lending I realized that we are working with two of the three significant innovators in the field, the Intersect Fund and Kiva.org," said Jay Savulich.
