volunteerVolunteering: A Life Changing Experience

After founding Noggin Seeds, Rising Tide Entrepreneur Rene Mayo needed legal assistance with several important business documents. Through our partnership with NYU Law and Lowenstein Sandler, she was paired with Kimberly Diamond, a lawyer who changed not just her business, but also her life.

Read on to learn more about the project, and see how it turned out!

"I have benefited from working with Kimberly Diamond not only by having the actual work done, but by submitting to the process. Discussing my business with Kim and her team in order to revise and legally structure my contracts opened up my eyes to a ton of pitfalls that existed because I didn't include the right amount of detail. This has allowed me to avoid recurring issues in my business, and become a more effective negotiator."
Rene Mayo- Owner, Noggin Seeds

"Working with Rene has been one of the most rewarding experiences of my legal career.  To know that applying my skills can both change the course of a business and impact the owner of that business in a very positive way is more than gratifying. I can't express in words the level satisfaction and fulfillment that I've gained by helping Rene to get the foundational elements of her business in place so that it can thrive.  Rene is an amazing woman who has great vision and drive.  It has been my honor and pleasure to assist her with her business." Kimberly Diamond- Counsel, Lowenstein Sandler

Tips3 Tips to Help Maximize Your RTC Volunteer Experience

Ian Tyson served as Volunteer Coordinator at Rising Tide Capital for two years. During that time he was able to observe what it takes to be a great volunteer at our programs! He recently provided some best practices  to ensure that the experience is beneficial to both entrepreneurs and volunteers.

1. Start With Conversation- Ask questions to get to know each other and make a connection.
2. Keep An Eye On The Clock- Budget your time, propose a plan and set guidelines to ensure you cover everything.
3. Ask A Lot Of Questions- This will help you get clarity on a situation or topic and help you to be a better volunteer.

1) Who inspires you?

My grandmom. While I was in college she sent me a postcard every week. By the time I graduated I had collected 120 of them. The love, peace, and joy that she communicated to me through these postcards is something I aspire to pass on to others.

2) What do you love to do on the weekends?

I love to do something active, whether it's going for a run or playing some sort of sport, usually soccer or basketball.

3) What's your hidden passion?

I have a passion for traveling and experiencing new foods and cultures. In my picture you can see I'm in Spain sampling paella.

4) What's one song that belongs on the playlist to your life?

The Who's "Behind Blue Eyes."

5) What's an RTC product or service you can't live without?

Helados Reina, Reina Maradiaga's ice cream cart.  There's nothing better on hot summer days!
