Rhythm Meditations w/ Deborah

1st and 3rd Wednesdays at 6:30 pm

at MM12. Next Class 9/2

Immerse yourself in this form of moving, musical meditation where rhythm is the object of contemplation. Rhythm meditation is for anyone wanting to develop awareness and deepen understanding of rhythm. You don't need to play an instrument. People at all levels come together to transform their relationship to music, to each other, and to life.

During a rhythm meditation, we vocalize, step, and clap simultaneously. Gently held and supported by the group, we weave different rhythms on several levels. Our experience of repeatedly falling into chaos and then re-emerging into a higher level of organization translates naturally into an awareness not only of music, but also of learning and life.

Wear comfortable clothes and an open mind. Yoga mats are available for your use.

Maya Forbes autobiographically inflected Infinitely Polar Bear tells the story of Cameron, a man who suffers from bipolar disorder. After a breakdown forces him to leave his family and move into a halfway house, he attempts to rebuild a relationship with his two daughters, and win back the trust of his wife Maggie. When Maggie decides to go back to school, they decide that he will move back in and handle the day-to-day care for the kids. Due to his mercurial nature, this leads to a series of quirky, funny, and sometimes frightening episodes.

When a burned-out, brilliant professor - one who believes in lessons from life rather than text books - takes a job at a small college, everyone there is abuzz. He becomes involved with a teacher as well as a precocious student, but it takes a dramatic, existential act to turn his life around and make him see the world through a much rosier and more positive perspective.
