Michigan at the epicenter of a national epidemic; GDAHC to convene important conversation
|
Michigan is at the forefront of a major epidemic in America -- the overuse of prescription drugs and heroin overdose. This is a life-threatening and community-damaging crisis that crosses all demographics; affecting families, resulting in job loss, increasing the cost of health care, and vastly impacting law enforcement.
Who is Convening the Conversation and Why? The Greater Detroit Area Health Council [GDAHC], in partnership with the Detroit Wayne Mental Health Authority (DWMHA), will host the "Prescription Drug Abuse and Heroin Overdose Summit: Understanding and Collaborating to Affect Change" on Wednesday, February 10 at 7:30 a.m. - 4 p.m. at the Detroit Marriott Renaissance Center. The summit, involving several subject matter experts, will present the foundational issues, why this matters to every stakeholder, share the impact, and set an action plan. Through this summit, attendees will increase knowledge and work together in the future to implement strategies to address this crisis.
Who Should Attend? Health professionals, social workers, law enforcement, counselors, educators, elected officials and government staff, court staff, corrections officers, funeral directors, and community members.
How Do I Register? Online registration is available now through February 1, 2016. GDAHC Members are $40 each and $65 for Future GDAHC Members. Summit sponsorship and booth space is available. Contact Bryan Peckinpaugh, GDAHC Director of Public Affairs, at 313-965-4123 or by email to inquire about sponsorship or with your questions.
