Do I Really Need That Antibiotic or Test?
|
GDAHC Coffee & Controversy on May 7 presents insight on unnecessary prescriptions, tests and procedures
|
Historically, when health care consumers have encountered a common illness they ask their doctor for antibiotics and the physician generally prescribes them. But, is that the right choice? When are antibiotics best utilized?

What about tests? When is a CT scan necessary?
When it comes to prescriptions, tests and procedures, we need to yield before proceeding and have meaningful conversations to ensure the best quality care is provided. In addition to the impact on quality care, these discussions can potentially reduce health care costs.
GDAHC continues our efforts to inform the public and help improve health care quality and reduce cost. Our next Coffee & Controversy on Thursday, May 7 focuses on this important topic with a panel representing diverse expertise.
Coffee & Controversy "Do I Really Need That Antibiotic or Test?" panelists are:
- Charles E. Kelly, D.O., President and Chief Executive Officer, Henry Ford Physician Network
- Marjorie Mitchell, Executive Director, Michigan Universal Health Care Access Network (MICHUCAN)
- Joe Neller, Integrated Physician Advocacy, Michigan State Medical Society
Our moderator will be announced soon.
The intent of this discussion is to generate the type of information necessary for health care providers, insurers, employers and consumers to have meaningful conversations about care.
