Historically, when health care consumers have encountered a common illness they ask their doctor for antibiotics and the physician generally prescribes them. But, is that the right choice? When are antibiotics best utilized?

What about tests? When is a CT scan necessary?

When it comes to prescriptions, tests and procedures, we need to yield before proceeding and have meaningful conversations to ensure the best quality care is provided. In addition to the impact on quality care, these discussions can potentially reduce health care costs. 

GDAHC continues our efforts to inform the public and help improve health care quality and reduce cost. Our next Coffee & Controversy on Thursday, May 7 focuses on this important topic with a panel representing diverse expertise.

Macomb County Executive Mark Hackel will be the keynote speaker for the 2015 Greater Detroit Area Health Council (GDAHC) Annual Board and Membership Meeting. Together, we will chart a course toward healthy people and a healthy economy. Join us to network with fellow leaders and innovators -- we are the only organization in southeast Michigan that brings to the table most of the major health care stakeholders. GDAHC members attend free, while future members may attend for $25 per person. A continental breakfast will be served.
