Solar South of the Border By Alan Scott, FAIA The Cadmus Group Solar Oregon Board Member
The trend toward sustainable development is truly international, making inroads in sectors from agriculture to manufacturing, buildings and energy. This is certainly true of our neighbors to the south. On a recent trip to Guadalajara, I was able to witness this first hand and dig into some of the details. I was invited to Guadalajara to deliver an address at the Universidad Panamericana's XII Simposium Internacional de Ingeniería Civil, titled "LEED en Latinoamérica" and focused on the importance of using tools like Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) and the Living Building Challenge to support the creation of high-performance building projects. While there, I also met with the Cámara Mexicana de la Industria de la Construcción (CMIC) Jalisco Energy and Environment Committee and conducted a videoconference on green building and sustainable forestry that was broadcast to Comisión Nacional Forestal (CONAFOR) staff in 18 Mexican states. |

I am proud to report that Obsidian Renewables will be adding another large solar PV project to its Oregon portfolio this fall. We will be building a 500 kw project in Lakeview, Oregon, next to our existing 363 kw project and PacifiCorp's 2.5 megawatt Black Cap project that we developed last year. The project is called Lakeview 500 (no, it's not a NASCAR race).
Lakeview 500 will be the 23rd project Obsidian has developed or financed in Oregon, and it will be the fourth large project Obsidian has developed in Lake County. The project will be built under Oregon's feed-in tariff pilot program where we were the winning bid. Under the program, project owners and developers are allowed to bid for a power purchase agreement (PPA) price to Pacific Power and PGE for projects up to 500 kw in size.

Solar Drinks - Portland Tuesday August 13th
Solar + EcoRoofs
We return to one of our favorite venues for August Solar Drinks. Enjoy Solterra's solar eco rooftop, refreshments and a presentation by Ed McNamara of Turtle Island Development LLC.
This month's topic: The roof of the Ramona Apartments - installing an eco roof, solar hot waterpanels, and PV on a 5-story wood framed affordable housing apartment building. How we decided to do it, what we learned, and what else we would like to know.

Successful SolWest Fair and Eastern Oregon Workshop Tour
We had a blast this month in Eastern Oregon with great turn outs for our workshops in Pendleton, Enterprise, Baker City, Ontario and at SolWest in John Day.
After 15 years this was the last SolWest Fair to be held at the Grant County Fairgrounds in John Day but don't despair! Oregon Rural Action, our friends friends and fellow solar advocates will be carrying the torch next year in La Grande and Solar Oregon will be there.
Solar Oregon would also like to thank Jennifer Barker, Executive Director of Eastern Oregon Renewable Energies for her tireless work and passion that have made SolWest such an important part of sustainable living in Oregon. Jennifer received awards from Oregon Department of Energy and Energy Trust of Oregon for her work and dedication to furthering renewable energy in Oregon. She is pictured above driving one of the EVs at the Fair.
Here are a couple items from the workshop tour and SolWest:
