Renewable Energy Trailer comes to Life
If you follow us on Facebook (and if you don't I encourage you to do so) you might have seen some of the fun we were having earlier this month installing solar on a trailer for our outreach work in Lake County. While most of my time is spent in the office or in meetings and less frequently these days delivering workshops, it was a great opportunity to get out and see if I remembered anything from my NABCEP classes and to experience the thrill of making energy from the sun first hand.

2013 Legislative Session's Solar Watch List
Jo
The 2013 legislative session has started and there are quite a few bills that have been introduced that would effect solar energy and it's use in Oregon. Many of these bills are modifications of the existing net metering statue established in 1999 which required all utilities in Oregon to allow customers to interconnect and receive credit for energy produced in order to offset on site energy consumption.
In the 14 years since this net metering statue was established the solar industry and it's use by consumers has grown and evolved. Just this last summer Solar Oregon worked to survey all of the utilities in Oregon to see how they are interpreting the statute and how it is being implemented. You can view the survey here: http://solaroregon.org/oregon-net-metering-policy-survey/at_download/file

We will be bringing you more information as the session progresses, but here is a list of the bills that we are keeping an eye on and you should too.

Come Join Us on the Solar Coaster
By Ron "Mac" McDowell, President, Solar Oregon
Are you someone who sees clean energy technology as a way out for us as a nation? Do you want to do more to support renewable energy in your community? We do too. Solar Oregon is a small non-profit that thrives on our member volunteers and staff. The Board of Directors are all volunteers too. On top of that, our board members are expected to be servant leaders and actively participate in our activities and on our committees. We've got a great group to work with, but we are small and we need more of what you've got to offer. So, to revitalize our working committees in order to better manage the operations and expand our mission, we are asking you, dear reader, to get more deeply involved.

Solar Drinks - March 12th
Explore Oregon's solar roots with Eldon Haines, inventor of the Copper Cricket solar water heating system. Learn about the development and history of the Copper Cricket and solar water heating in Oregon.
You've heard that the Copper Cricket pumps hot antifreeze down from rooftop to heat exchanger without electricity or moving parts - but how?
You've heard that we manufactured several thousand Copper Crickets - but what is the Copper Dragon?
You've heard we went bankrupt in 1995 - well, you're right. Maybe there were important lessons in that bankruptcy - right again.
Come hear the story and join the conversation. A couple of old Cricket Cronies may come, too.
Executive Director, Claire Carlson will also give a brief policy update.
