Montavilla Solar Array
Portland, OR
Frank Wildensee's 2.58 kW system was installed in 2009, and offsets about 60% of his electricity use. He heats his home with a high efficiency gas furnace, and keeps the heat from escaping with new low-e, wood-framed windows. Energy isn't all he conserves, however; he also has rain barrels and a rain garden. Nice!

Happy Holidays from the Board President
Hello All and Seasons Greetings! I want to take a moment to express my gratitude to everyone who has given to our modest non-profit this past year.
THANK YOU for being a supporter of Solar Oregon.
In this climate of financial and policy challenges, few American Solar Energy Society (ASES) chapters have been able to match what Solar Oregon has accomplished this year. Credit the hard work of Executive Director Claire Carlson and her staff, and also the generosity and support of our members, partners and the communities we serve. Your support helped us rise to some prominence in 2012. >> Click here to read more

On the night of December 4th, we held our 2nd Annual Community Dinner at Aviary, chosen Willamette Week's Restaurant of the Year. What a fabulous night! This fundraising event was a sold out. For those who were able to join us, on behalf of the Board and staff of Solar Oregon, we say THANK YOU for attending.

Creative Deal Structure Brings S olar to Tigard's Rolling Hills Community Church
Rolling Hills Community Church wanted to go green, and the flat roof on the 2,400-member church in Tigard provided a great opportunity for solar. But federal tax credits for solar were not available to the tax-exempt church, so the congregation turned to Lake Oswego's NW Photon Energy to find a workable business model.

Solar Oregon gets ready to launch K-12 program and welcomes Morgan Mulkey!
By Claire Carlson, Executive Director
Morgan's work began in the winter of 2009 when I was just starting with Solar Oregon as an intern. At the time I was determined to relaunch Solar Oregon's k-12 education program, which had lapsed a few years before due to lack of funding. With no experience in curriculum design, or youth education for that matter, one of the first people I reached out to for help was Morgan. At the time she was in the middle of finishing a Masters in Education and another in Science Teaching, but she still found time to share her knowledge and experience with us.
As we get ready to launch I am extremely excited to add her to our team and have no doubt that her experience as a 6th grade science teacher, grant writer and solar energy volunteer will help us to grow a new generation of Oregonians with the knowledge and drive to lead us to a clean energy future.
If you are interested in volunteering in the classroom please email emily@solaroregon.org and if you or your employer would like to contribute to the program please contact claire@solaroregon.org or donate directly here.
