A Note from Swim School
First, we would like to thank everyone who participated in our Aqua Palooza over Spring Break at the Bee Cave location. It was a blast! Now a note about swim shirts:
The main reason the Swim Instructors wear the Nitro swim shirts in the water is for easier identification, uniformity, and a professional look. They are not worn for any performance advantage or warmth benefit. The water is kept at 88 degrees, which is very comfortable. Wearing a swim shirt makes it
more difficult to learn to swim. Some of these little bodies are wearing shirts that are very saggy, and they hold a lot of extra water. Give your swimmer the best chance they have to perform the skills - by leaving the swim shirt at home.
Friendly reminder to have caps on your little swimmers to help keep their hair out of the eyes or mouth. Long pony tails, even those rubber banded, have a tendency to get in the way when breathing on certain strokes. Also - Band Aids are bad news for pool pumps and filters. Ick!

April is Adult Learn-to-Swim Month
According to the Centers for Disease Control, 37 percent of American adults can't swim the length of a pool, which puts them at risk of being one of the 10 people who drown every day in the United States.
The Swimming Saves Lives Foundation, U.S. Masters Swimming's charitable arm, has declared the month of April "Adult Learn-to-Swim Month." That's when pools, lakes, and beaches are opening up for spring and summer recreation. The governors of Indiana, Nebraska, Washington, Maine, and New Jersey have already issued proclamations in support.
*Don't forget - we offer adult lessons at both our locations!

Nitro Swim School Station Highlight of the Month
Nitro 1 Station 3
The Bluefish kick! Of course your first question must be, "What's a blue fish and how exactly are they supposed to kick?". The blue fish position for Nitro 1 is when a swimmer puts their hands together extended reaching in front of the swimmer while keeping their eyes looking at the bottom of the pool laying on their tummy. When kicking the swimmer needs to have their legs stretched out and kicking with toes pointed behind the swimmer.
Tips for Homework!
If you would like to practice at home for this station some things to do would be practicing holding our breath under the water in the bath tub making a big bubble with our mouth to ensure we are full of air before we go under the water. Some other things to practice would be laying on their tummy on the floor or a bed and practicing kicking with straight legs pointed toes without bending their knees as well as keeping their hands together and still reaching out in front. If you have any other questions about this station or any of the other stations in the Nitro Curriculum feel free to ask a Deck Instructor for some tips we are always happy to help in any way we can!
*PARENTS*
To ensure the comfort and safety of all swimmers,
please be sure to stay at Nitro while your swimmer is in the water.
