Over 1,700 Students and Educators Attend Student Leadership Series Events in Woodburn, OR

USHLI's 2013 Student Leadership Series (SLS) came to a successful conclusion in Woodburn, OR. The final series of events included partnerships with French Prairie and Valor middle schools, Woodburn High School, and MacLaren Youth Correctional Facility. A total of 1,700 students and educators were served through this event.
USHLI is very grateful to the middle school and high school principals: Richard Marquez (French Prairie), Danny Nañez (Valor), and Victor Vergara (Woodburn), and to the director of the correctional facility, Dan Berger, for hosting these events. USHLI is especially grateful to Benton County District Attorney John Haroldson, Oregon State Board of Education member Anthony Veliz, and Office of Minority Services Director for the Oregon Youth Authority Maria Chavez Haroldson for their leadership in planning and organizing this series of events. USHLI is also grateful for the support of all the public officials and business and community leaders who attended the events.
Joaquín Zihuatanejo, a Poetry Slam World Champion and nationally prominent motivational speaker, was featured at these events. Transportation was provided courtesy of Southwest Airlines.
Schools participating in our 2013 Student Leadership Series saw their students become better motivated, more involved in class and extracurricular activities, more determined to succeed academically and in life, and better prepared to enter the workforce. A record-number 140,397 students, parents, and teachers in 28 states and Washington DC were served this year, a 97% increase over last year.
USHLI is very grateful to all the sponsors of the Student Leadership Series for their generous support. Our goal in 2014 is to serve 200,000 students, parents, and educators in 30 states and would welcome the opportunity to discuss sponsorship opportunities with anyone who may be interested in supporting this work.
