McDonald's, CoolSpeak, and USHLI Partnership Continues in Tucson, AZ

The McDonald's series of Student Leadership Summits, in partnership with USHLI and CoolSpeak, continued in Tucson.  The event, held at Sunnyside High School, was attended by over 2,300 students, teachers and counselors, featured a nationally prominent motivational speaker, a breakout presentation on scholarships and "how to" finance your post-secondary education, and a Career and College Recruitment Fair.  The Career and College Recruitment Fair featured a Study Lounge sponsored by McDonald's and included 20 recruiters representing post-secondary institutions throughout the state.

Our nationally prominent motivational speaker from CoolSpeak was Joaquin Zihuatanejo. Lina Traslavia Stover conducted the workshop on scholarships.

At the McDonald's Study Lounge students learned more about regional and national RMHC HACER Scholarships, received information about post-secondary education, and took free snapshots.  Local McDonald's owners/operators also provided a complimentary snack consisting of apple slices, cookies, apple pies, and water during the Career and College Recruitment Fair.  USHLI is very grateful to Sunnyside School District College Readiness Director NJ Utter, school Principal Steve Ybarra, and his entire team for their support and invaluable assistance in planning and hosting the event.  Mr. Roger Canchola, who owns six McDonald's restaurants, spoke on behalf of local owner/operators. The Sunnyside School District Superintendent, Dr. Manuel Izquierdo, also addressed the students.

SLS participating schools will see their students become better motivated, more involved in class and extracurricular activities, more determined to succeed academically and in life, and better prepared to enter the workforce. Over 15,000 students, parents, and teachers are expected to be served through this new series of Student Leadership Summits.
