|
USHLI's Student Leadership Series (SLS) continued its fall campaign with a successful event in Albuquerque, NM, in partnership with the West Mesa High School. A student assembly for 9th and 10th graders was held at West Mesa High School. A total of 1,100 students and educators were served through this event.
USHLI is very grateful to the West Mesa Principal Mr. Ben Santistevan and his team, ENLACE Statewide Director Dr. Lawrence Roybal, University of New Mexico Vice President for Equity and Inclusion and Principal Investigator of the Unidos Project Dr. Jozi De Leon, and everyone else who pitched in for their leadership in planning and organizing this event.
Nationally prominent motivational speaker Jimmy Cabrera, who is rated among the top three, was featured at this event. Transportation was provided courtesy of Southwest Airlines.
SLS participating schools will see their students become better motivated, more involved in class and extracurricular activities, more determined to succeed academically and in life, and better prepared to enter the workforce. Over 113,000 students, parents, and teachers in 25 states have been served this year.
Persons interested in hosting an SLS event in 2013 or 2014 should contact Dr. Juan Andrade at docandrade@ushli.org.
