Co-sponsors Youth Leadership Conference in Atlanta, GA
|
USHLI's Student Leadership Series (SLS) continued its fall campaign with a successful partnership event with the Latin American Association (LAA) in Atlanta, GA. USHLI co-sponsored the LAA's Latino Youth Leadership Conference, hosted by Emory University. Now in its 14th year, the event includes a career and college recruitment fair and is arguably the best organized and attended student leadership conference held on a weekend for middle school and high school students and their parents. The featured nationally prominent speaker featured was Gabe Salazar. The event was attended by over 2,200 students, parents, recruiters, and college students who volunteered to help.
USHLI is very grateful to Jeffrey Tapia, LAA Executive Director, for the opportunity to co-sponsor this outstanding program which has challenged and motivated 15,000-20,000 young Latinos to complete high school and pursue some level of post-secondary education or training.
SLS participating schools will see their students become better motivated, more involved in class and extracurricular activities, more determined to succeed academically and in life, and better prepared to enter the workforce. Over 99,106 students, parents, and teachers in 23 states and Washington, DC have been served this year.
Persons interested in hosting an SLS event in 2013 or 2014 should contact Dr. Juan Andrade at docandrade@ushli.org.
