McDonald's and USHLI Partnership Continues in Washington, DC
|
The McDonald's and USHLI series of Student Leadership Summits continued into Washington, DC. The event, held at Bell Multicultural High School, was attended by over 1,200 students, teachers and counselors, featured two nationally prominent motivational speakers, a breakout session on scholarships and "how to" finance your post-secondary education, and a Career and College Recruitment Fair.
A press conference that was well covered by local electronic and print media was held the day before the actual event.
Our nationally prominent motivational speakers from CoolSpeak included Carlos Ojeda, Jr. and Ernesto Mejia.

The Career and College Recruitment Fair featured a Study Lounge sponsored by McDonald's, where students could receive useful information on scholarships and preparing for college. A local McDonald's owner/operator also provided complimentary apple slices and water. USHLI is very grateful to Roxana Olivas and her entire team at the Mayor's Office on Latino Affairs for their leadership and invaluable assistance, to Ms. Maria Tukeva, the Founder and Principal of Columbia Heights Educational Campus for her generous support and hospitality, and to everyone else who contributed to the success of this event.

SLS participating schools will see their students become better motivated, more involved in class and extracurricular activities, more determined to succeed academically and in life, and better prepared to enter the workforce. An estimated 15,000 students, parents, and teachers are expected to be served through this new series of Student Leadership Summits.
