Nearly 1,500 Students, Parents and Teachers Attend Student Leadership Series Events in Connecticut, Massachusetts, and Rhode Island

The 2013 Student Leadership Series (SLS) launched in February and concluded in May with a successful tour of New England. USHLI is very grateful to Ivette Rivera-Dreyer for her leadership and assistance in bringing the SLS to Hartford, CT and to The Latino Leadership Council of New England for arranging SLS events in Boston, MA and to Senator and Ms. Juan Pichardo for organizing events for students and parents in Providence, RI.

Our nationally prominent motivational speakers featured in the tour included: Roy Juarez, Jr. in Hartford, Lina Traslavina-Stover in Providence and Ernesto Mejia in Boston.
SLS participating schools will see their students become better motivated, more involved in class and extracurricular activities, perform better in class and on tests, and more determined to succeed academically and in life. Absenteeism and truancy will decline. Their dropout rate will decrease and the graduation rate will increase as more and more students accept the challenge to navigate their way through the academic achievement pipeline toward career and success. Over 43,064 students and parents in 19 states were reached during the first six months of the year. Over 100,000 will be reached by the end of 2013.
