Over 4,200 Students and Teachers Attend Student Leadership Series Events in Reno, NV

The 2013 Student Leadership Series (SLS) headed west again, partnering with the Latino Resource Center at the University of Nevada Reno.  The Resource Center serves as a nexus between the Latino community and the university. Its mission is to foster research, student achievement, faculty collaboration, advocacy, and outreach in a manner that best meets the educational needs and goals of the State of Nevada and best honors the intellectual and cultural capital of the Latino presence in Nevada.

Events were held at Spanish Spring High School and Galena High School.  Over
3,950 students and 250 teachers attended.  We are grateful for the support of the Reno Independent School District.

Our featured speaker was Jimmy Cabrera, rated among the best motivational speakers in the nation.  Students and teachers alike heard his clear and powerful message - believe in yourself, stay in school, improve your academic performance, fill your backpack with the life and academic skills needed to graduate high school and take advantage of the post-secondary options available to be successful in life and career.

SLS participating schools will see their students become better motivated and more determined to succeed academically and in life.  Their dropout rate will decrease and the graduation rate will increase as more and more students are embolden to navigate their way through the academic achievement pipeline toward career and success.  Over 23,903 students, parents, and professionals in 7 states have been reached to date.

The Student Leadership Series is USHLI's flagship youth program, and one of six youth programs offered by USHLI.

Together with our super-talented, innovative, energetic, interactive, uplifting and inspiring speakers, USHLI is able to offer SLS events that will empower students at all levels, parents, as well as educators.
