Tania K. Cordova and Juan A. Chavez Receive $1,000 Scholarships!

USHLI has awarded over $1.2 million in scholarships and internships to Latino college students.  Only those national organizations that exist primarily for the purpose of awarding scholarships have awarded more.

Forty students will receive USHLI scholarships or internships in 2013, which are awarded on a highly competitive basis.  Not only must applicants demonstrate strong leadership potential, the need for financial support must be equally strong.  Also, additional consideration is given to students who are the first in their family to graduate high school or the first to pursue postsecondary education or training.  Click on their photo for a short video.

This month we are featuring two more recipients of the Dr. Juan Andrade Scholarship for Young Hispanic Leaders for 2013.  They are Tania Cordova from Indiana and Juan Chavez from Illinois. Tania plans to attend Indiana University next fall and major in International Business and Spanish. Juan is a junior attending Columbia College and majoring in Film & Video and minoring in Marketing Communications.

Juan also participated in the Project CED (Citizens for an Educated Democracy) video scholarship contest, where he portrayed the impact Project CED has had on him, his family, and his community. Click on the photo to the left for access to this video.

USHLI continues to be the premier national organization empowering Latino youth by engaging students in nonpartisan civic participation and leadership development, and promoting education.  Over 350,000 high school and college students have participated in USHLI's education programs including Students for an Educated Democracy, Citizens for an Educated Democracy, Student Leadership Series, Collegiate Leadership Development, Grassroots Leadership Development, and 21st Century Leaders/MillerCoors Scholars.

In addition USHLI has registered over 2.2 million new voters, trained over 45,000 present and future leaders, and published over 425 studies and reports on Latino demographics.  In 2012 USHLI was recognized as the

National Organization of the Year.
