Ivan Zapien to be Honored by USHLI

Mr. E. Ivan Zapien, Vice President for Federal Government Relations at Walmart, will be honored at the 31st National Conference of the United States Hispanic Leadership Institute (USHLI), which will be held February 14-17, 2013, at the Sheraton Chicago Hotel and Towers.  In making the announcement, USHLI President Dr. Juan Andrade said "It is our privilege to recognize Ivan Zapien, who for over 20 years has worked with distinction in government relations at the highest levels helping shape federal policy in the public and private sectors."  The medallion will be presented Saturday, February 16, at 12:15pm during the Latino Officials Recognition Luncheon.


Mr. Zapien will receive the "Mickey Ibarra Medallion for Excellence in Government Relations", which was inaugurated in 2012 in honor of Mickey Ibarra, considered the consummate professional in the industry and respected for maintaining the highest standards and for his remarkable knowledge and understanding of government.  

Prior to joining Walmart, he was Chief of Staff for United States Senator Bob Menendez of New Jersey, worked as a lobbyist, and started his career on the staff of former U.S. Senator Dennis Diconcini of Arizona.  USHLI is proud to present the first Mickey Ibarra Medallion for Excellence in Government Relations to Ivan Zapien.

 

Mr. Zapien is a graduate of the University of Arizona. He holds an M.A. from The George Washington University and a J.D. from The Catholic University of America; and is admitted to the District of Colombia Bar.

 

A native of Guadalajara, Mexico, Mr. Zapien grew up in the State of Sonora, Mexico and in Tucson, Arizona. He now lives in Alexandria, Virginia with his wife, Victoria Sneed, who is Executive Vice President of KRC Research, and their two children, Pilar and Marco Antonio.


Over 6,000 present and future leaders representing 40 states are expected to attend our 31st National Conference.  As in years past, over 60% of conference participants will be 18-34 years of age and female, and over 80% will be college graduates or currently attending college.  For more information about our national conference, or to register to attend, please click here.
