USHLI Returns to El Paso

An estimated 1,400 Eastlake High School students, teachers, counselors and administrators attended our Student Leadership Series event held in El Paso.  The purpose for our event was to encourage students to stay in school, improve their academic performance, graduate, and plan to pursue some kind of post-secondary education or training, e.g., vocational, technical, trade, community college, 4-year university, or military.

USHLI is very grateful to Mr. Gilbert Martinez, Principal, and the entire staff and faculty at Eastlake High School for their support of our SLS program and commend them all for their tremendous efforts in providing their students the best education and the best opportunities possible.  We are very grateful to all our sponsors and always enjoy having them at our events, so a special Thank You! to McDonald's for attending this event.   Our featured speakers were Ernesto Mejia and The Cuban Guy.

This was our 53rd SLS event of 2012, bringing the total number of students, parents, and professionals served to 60,026   in  24  states.   The next stops for the Student Leadership Series are Tucson, AZ (12/10-13) and Boston (12/13).

The primary goal of the Student Leadership Series is to ensure that every Latino family has a student that is one of the following: the 1st student to graduate high school; the 1st student to enroll in post-secondary education or training; the 1st student to graduate post-secondary education or training. The USHLI 2012 Student Leadership Series officially launched February 16th and consists of Stay-in-School Rallies for middle school and junior high students, Career & College Recruitment Fairs for high school students, Regional Leadership Summits for college students, and, if possible Parent Leadership Training and Professional Development events.

Persons interested in hosting SLS events in 2013 should contact Dr. Juan Andrade at [email protected].
