USHLI in the Bronx

An estimated 900 middle school and high school students and educators attended our Student Leadership Series events held in the Bronx, NY.  The intent of the presentations was to encourage students to stay in school, improve their academic performance, graduate, and plan to pursue some kind of post-secondary education or training.  The featured speaker was Carlos Ojeda

The schools hosting the events were: University Heights High School, and Bronx Leadership Academy II.  USHLI is very grateful for the support and cooperation received from everyone at these schools, in particular, School Liaisons Ms. Passion Foy and Ms. Lillian De Jesus.

This was our 39th Student Leadership Series event of 2012, bringing the total number of students, parents, and professionals served to 45,982 in 21 states.  The next stops for the Student Leadership Series are Chicago, IL (11/2-3), Ogden, UT (11/5), Jerome, ID (11/6), Boise, ID (11/6), Yakima Valley, WA (11/7), Omaha, NE (11/7), Woodburn, OR (11/8), and Hammond, IN (11/7-9).

The primary goal of the Student Leadership Series is to ensure that every Latino family has a student that is one of the following: the 1st student to graduate high school; the 1st student to enroll in post-secondary education or training; the 1st student to graduate post-secondary education or training. The USHLI 2012 Student Leadership Series officially launched February 16th and consists of Stay-in-School Rallies for middle school and junior high students, Career & College Recruitment Fairs for high school students, Regional Leadership Summits for college students, and, whenever possible, Parent Leadership Training and Professional Development events.
