  • Interfaith Thanksgiving Service- The DuPage Interfaith Thanksgiving Service will be held on Monday, November 25 at 7:30 PM in the beautiful sanctuary of St. Procopius Abbey at the corner of Maple and College in Lisle. Read more here
  • Hanukkah- Hanukkah begins Wednesday evening, November 27. During this holiday we light the menorah, sing songs, play dreidel and, of course, eat lots of latkes. Hanukkah is a holiday not only for children to enjoy, but to be celebrated with family and friends. Read more here.

Message from Our Educator
A week from today we begin the holiday of Hanukkah. I know the kids are "all about the gifts" but I feel that we adults need to help them understand there is more to this holiday than gifts. Read more here.

  • Shabbat Chaverim- Our next Shabbat Chaverim will be on Friday morning, December 26 at 10:00 AM. This program is for young children and a parent/guardian. Each session we do a craft, have play time, music with Cindy Michelassi and, of course a snack. We recite the Shabbat blessings and then have challah and juice.
  • Hanukkah Craft Party- Join us THIS Sunday, November 24 for Etz Chaim's annual Hanukkah Craft Party, 1200 PM - 2:00 PM. There will be crafts, games, prizes, face painting, Hanukkah goodies and more. This event is for children in preschool through second grade. There is no cost for this event!
  • OSRUI is accepting registration for the 2014 summer season. For more information or to register, click here.
  • Jewish American Heroes- Each week this year we have a famous guest visiting our school. The guest is always a figure from our American Jewish past. Read more here.
  • Snow Day School Closing Information- If we need to close for some unforeseen reason, not due to bad weather, we will contact you via phone. If we need to cancel school because of bad weather we will do three things.
    • Send an email blast by 7:30 AM on a Sunday and by 2:00 PM on a Wednesday
    • Post it on the home page of our Etz Chaim webpage.
    • Post it on the Etz Chaim facebook page. Like us on Facebook.
Congregational Life
  • Caring Committee- Do you know about the caring committee? Occasionally we hear someone mention that they wish Congregation Etz Chaim had an organization to help other congregants in need. Read more here.

  • Indiana University's Jewish Studies is now accepting applications for scholarships for incoming freshmen for 2014-2015. Read more here.
  • Tzedakah Collection Box- The social action committee has designated the tzadakah collection to aid victims of typhoon Haiyan. The donations will be sent to United Reform Judaism Disaster relief fund which will be distributed to aid groups working in the affected areas.
