Janet WidmaierIt is my privilege to use my bulletin article this month to announce the formation of a new Etz Chaim donative fund.  At the last Board of Directors meeting, Board approved the formation of the Barbara Baruch School Scholarship Fund. Read more here.

  • Lifelong Learning Programs:
    • In collaboration with Spertus our Lifelong Learning and Library Committees present One Book/One Community author talk on Sunday, December 2nd 2:30-4:00 PM at Etz Chaim. Read more here.
    • Faces of Judaism Illuminated- On Monday, December 3rd, Rabbi Zvi Engel of Congregation Or Torah in Skokie presents Part II of the four-part series on Orthodox Judaism. Read more here.
  • Hanukkah Family Night- Please join us on Sunday, December 9, 2012 to celebrate the Festival of Lights. This fun-filled Hanukkah party will take place at Etz Chaim from 4:00 PM - 6:30 PM. Read more here.
  • Sisterhood Events:
    • Yoga Class- Please join the Sisterhood in the lower level on Sunday, December 16th for a one and a half hour rejuvenating yoga session. Read more here.
  • Social Action Programs:  
    • The Connections Team initiates support group for caregivers. The support group meetings will be held once a month. Read more here.
    • Teen Parent Support Group- The Social Action Committee is looking for people interested in delivering a meal that has already been prepared, for a teen parent support group. Read more here. 
  • Seniors Program- The next Seniors program is December 5th. We will have lunch at 12:00 noon (there is a cost for lunch) & movie at 12:30. The movie is "The Ritchie Boys" that takes place during WWII. All are invited. Details to follow.
School & Youth Activities
  • Tot Shabbat Plus- The next Tot Shabbat Plus is December 1st at 9:30 AM. We have a very short service, followed by a story and song. Then there is a craft project for the children to do with help from parents, followed by Kiddush with challah, juice and snack.
  • School Happenings- We have had a couple of exciting programs in the past couple of weeks. Read more here.
  • Shabbat Chaverim- Our next Shabbat Chaverim will be Friday morning, December 7th at 10:00 AM. This program is for young children and a parent/guardian. Read more here.
  • Snow Day School Closing Information- If we need to close for some unforeseen reason, not due to bad weather, we will contact you via phone. If we need to cancel school because of bad weather we will do three things. 
    • Send an email blast by 7:30 AM on a Sunday and by 2:00 PM on a Wednesday.
    • Post it on the home page of our Etz Chaim webpage.
    • Post it on the Etz Chaim facebook page.
  • Preschool Survey- The preschool committee is planning for the future and is looking for input from our congregants. If you have young children/grandchildren, please take a moment to complete our survey here. We appreciate your input.
Congregational Life
  • Congregational Retreat- It's never too early to start thinking about spring and our annual Congregational Retreat. Want to get involved or just find out more about this fantastic event? Join us Tuesday, December 4, 2012 at 7:30 PM as we start the journey to put together another great retreat. Sandwiches and treats will be provided. So come join us for a nosh, conversation and camaraderie. Please RSVP to Karen Butterfield.
  • Auction Items Needed for 2013 Puttin' On the Ritz- We had such a good time last year, Etz Chaim is going to do it again! Mark your calendars for the second Puttin' on the Ritz, Saturday, February 2, 2013. Read more here.
