PFC Board Update
Happy New Year Bancroft families! This is the moment in the year when we are both looking forward - with resolutions, hopes, and goals - as well as settling back in - to our daily life after the holidays. We are taking stock of what has gone well, resolving to change what isn't, and planning for what is to come. The PFC is doing the same as we focus on making the most of the second half of the 2015-16 school year. We are also looking forward to next year and starting to figure out how we can make changes to best support our children.
For this year, the PFC has many more exciting events planned!
We have a FREE Family Movie Night this Friday in the MUR. While we have charged for this event in the past, this year we decided to make it all about the community and entertainment. Thank you to Clair Boomer for heading up this event. Cherisse Riney, Brenda Walsh and their team are also very busy planning what is sure to be another fabulously fun and successful Auction Night (it's a Luau!) on March 19th. This is an important night for the PFC's bottom line, but the best thing about this night is partying with our Bancroft friends, both old and new. And as mentioned in Mrs. Schuler's Message, we are changing the Spell a Thon into a MathAthletics held on April 29th during school. It is sure to be an interesting and engaging event for the kids. Thank you Cari Jackson for spearheading this!
Looking ahead to next year, the PFC has decided to add a VP Strategic Funds position to our Board. Over the past many years, the PFC has often had years where our income was greater than our expenses, and we have built up a savings account. These funds represent a nice cushion in the event that there are unforeseen challenges. However, as a PFC, we have voted to only keep 25% of our operating budget as a cushion; the rest of the savings should be strategically deployed to the school. At the end of last school year, a big part of this savings was given to Mrs. Schuler and earmarked for technology to help purchase the Chrome Books that the 3rd-5th grade classes are now using. The new VP Strategic Funds will oversee the use of the remaining money for other important projects in the near term. We welcome your thoughts and nominations for this role. Box Tops & Labels for Education
Please join us in congratulating Ms. Velasquez's kindergarten class as our December winner for collecting the most Box Tops/Labels for Education last month! The students are proud to have earned the Bobcat "Putting Your Best Paw Forward" trophy for their classroom this month. They collected so many labels that they also earned "extra" recess! Thank you so much for continuing to bring in your Box Tops and Labels for Education to earn more funds for Bancroft and our children's resources and programs!
We also wanted to congratulate Campbell Phillips from Maestra Stiles' first grade class as the raffle winner of the month!
As a reminder, there are just a few easy steps to collect and contribute Box Tops and Labels for Education. Shop for products you already purchase and deposit the labels in the box located in the office (please place labels in a Ziplock bag or envelope with your child's name and teacher's name).
For any questions, feel free to reach out to your coordinators:

Bancroft Math Olympiads Team
Math Olympiads (MO) is coming to Bancroft this Spring. MO is a popular competitive program in mathematics for elementary and middle school students. While the competition itself may be the focus for some, the philosophy underlying the program is focusing on the process preparing for the competition. By bringing fun and challenging math problems to students, it opens up a new dimension of mathematical thinking that may not be experienced in the classroom.
To find out more, please join us in our parent information night.
All are welcome but we will only accept current 3rd and 4th graders to the team as MO competition starts in the Fall and is limited to 4th and 5th graders.
Date : Wednesday, Feb 17 Time : 6:30 pm Place : Bancroft STEAM room

Harvest of the Month and Kinder Art Class Update
Going forward, Harvest of the Month will be held in the classroom instead of the STEAM Lab. This decision was made to accommodate kindergarten art lessons in the STEAM Lab during the first week of the month.
Previously, all kinder art lessons this year have been presented in the kindergarten classrooms. This has not been ideal for parent volunteers as they have needed to carry all art supplies for the lessons from the C POD to the classrooms.
Harvest of the Month supplies will be provided the first week of each month. Parent volunteers and teachers will coordinate when their HotM lessons will be held. This gives teachers and parent volunteers greater flexibility to provide this beloved program.

Become a Basementeer at Sports Basement!
Our longtime partner, Sports Basement, is spinning the traditional "loyalty" program into a win-win for their loyal customers and our community. Basementeers receive 10% and give 10%: 10% off every item every day; 10% of profits back to your favorite local charity like Bancroft Elementary.
Beginning January 1, 2016, there will be a $25 fee to join the Basementeer Program, though we have heard that they may still be letting people join for free before January 31. On your next visit to Sports Basement, register as a Basementeer and select Bancroft Elementary as your beneficiary.
Please note that the ongoing Partner and School discount programs will be phased out as Sports Basement switches over to the Basementeers Program. If you opt not to join Basementeers, you will no longer receive the 10% discount and Bancroft will no longer get its 10% profit from your purchases.
Sports Basement just sent the PFC a check for $2200 from the 2014 profit sharing program so this really is a profitable relationship! Sign up now to continue to earn for our kids!
