Texas Emergency Management and Texas VOAD Activate NDMN to Consolidate Public Donation Offers of Goods and Services for West, Texas Disaster

Public Urged to Use National Donations Management Network to Log Offers and Connect with State-Verified Relief Organizations

IRVING, TX - April 18, 2013 - Today Aidmatrix, the Texas Division of Emergency Management and the Texas Voluntary Organizations Active in Disaster (VOAD) announced activation of the National Donations Management Network (NDMN) in response to the West, Texas Disaster that killed 5 and injured more than 100 community members less than 24 hours ago. This service is provided free-of-charge to the public to make donation offers to trusted relief organizations and to view needs posted by that relief community. The relief organizations are vetted by the Texas VOAD and offers can be made at http://texasvoad.com/current-needs/

In order to coordinate and manage the influx of spontaneous donations for short- and long-term recovery efforts, the Texas Division of Emergency Management has activated the Texas State Donations Management Plan, in partnership with the Federal Emergency Management Agency and the National Donations Management Network.  It is using a FEMA-funded, web-based donations management tool called the National Donations Management Network (provided by Aidmatrix) to add efficiency and accountability to the donations management process.

Texas' private-non-profit, voluntary, faith-based and community organizations are providing assistance to the West, Texas disaster survivors by providing meals, clean-up kits, volunteer assistance with debris removal and clean-up, clothing, household items, hygiene kits, case management and countless other goods, supplies and services needed to help survivors recover in the days and months ahead.

Through the National Donations Management Network, the Texas Division of Emergency Management has the ability to accept and distribute donated goods to those in need. Visit the website at http://texasvoad.com/current-needs/ to view the specific items requested, and donate based on the need.  Offers are logged and routed to the Texas VOAD community which can then reply directly to the donor to coordinate delivery of the goods. The Texas VOAD members also can log in and post their needed items on the list so that donors can review and match those needs. This prevents the unnecessary burden of unsolicited goods showing up unannounced at the disaster site where they are subject to potential weather, spoilage and theft. Making donation offers through this web-based system gets more high-quality relief to those most in need. Visit http://texasvoad.com/current-needs/
